Face Myself – A (Bonus!) Post-Punk Mix

Well that was a few enjoyable days in Budapest and this mix was on my player during the trip. Why another post-punk mix so soon you ask? Whilst putting together the Silent & Alone mix I had a number of tracks that did not fit in that mix, were left over or, in the case of one or two, forgotten. So, primarily for my commute, I put together another mix and thought I would share the end results as I think it works really well. Anyway enjoy! Silent & Alone – A Post-Punk Mix

It’s been at least a month or so since the last post-punk mix and in that time there have been plenty of excellent singles and a few albums. Primarily a coldwave mix there is more than enough to keep you entertained whilst I am away for a few days in Budapest as it mixes the gloom merchants with those who want to dance in the dark. Alternative stream at hearthis. Full Track Listing: Molchat Doma – Zvezdy Quite a lot post-punk is aimed at the dancefloors these days and Zvezdy is no exception. See ya down there! Spheres – Leere … Continue reading Silent & Alone – A Post-Punk Mix

Night Hikes – Belltown (Single Version)

Belltown is the third single to be taken from the forthcomimg Chalice album and it could be the best one yet from this two piece band from Seattle. There is a real sense of story telling here as the very strong vocals take centre stage leaving the guitars and synths to shimmer in the background whilst the drums keep the song on track. To put it mildly Belltown is a very impressive single indeed. Facebook Continue reading Night Hikes – Belltown (Single Version)

Tea Room – Devil May Care

Canadian band Tea Room are releasing a new EP at the end of the week entitled Dress Up, a title which is surely behind their belief that the world is just a huge costume party and we’re all playing erm, dress up! The EP is a mix of songs old and new with Devil May Care being the only taster for the EP released to date. It’s a noisy DIY power-pop song that suggests the rest of the EP is going to be just as good – probably! You can pre-order Dress Up from here. Facebook Continue reading Tea Room – Devil May Care

Pia Fraus – Hidden Parks

Estonian dreampop band Pia Fraus have released a new single in the shape of Hidden Parks which is taken from the forthcoming new album. It’s a blissful track with some nice arrangements which fits in well with the falling autumn leaves outside my window. Like the previous single Sweet Sunday Snow it’s bundled with a number of remixes which may or may not enhance the track depending on your persuasion. I can easily live without the Wolfredt and Vanishing Twin remixes which do very little for me. That said things pick up up with the Erko Niit remix which adds … Continue reading Pia Fraus – Hidden Parks

The Angel Makers – Little Deaths

Little Deaths is one of two EPs released this month by Colchester’s The Angel Makers who have also recently expanded their line up. We were treated to a taster track in the shape of Too Late last month which whetted the appetite. Previously I described the band’s music as shoegaze, psychedelic and melancholic. On this EP those first two descriptions have long gone being replaced by programming which gives the first three tracks here a mechanical, robotic feel. The songs also sound devoid of any emotion despite the voice of Shauna Kelly. If that’s the effect they were aiming for … Continue reading The Angel Makers – Little Deaths

Mons Regalis – Lo Que Pasó

Lo Que Pasó is the second single from Mexican band Mons Regalis whose music has been previously described as dreampop/shoegaze. Personally I cannot hear any of that but what I do hear is an alternative/indie song that has some fine guitar riffs, catchy vocals, a bit of distortion and some noise. That sounds like a slab of perfect pop to me! Lo Que Pasó is out now digitally via Stupid Decisions ( Mexico) and Hikikomori Discos (Argentina) Continue reading Mons Regalis – Lo Que Pasó

Fragile Animals – Waiting

I have been enjoying Australian band Fragile Animals mix of alt-rock and shoegaze these past twelve months and that does not let up on new track Waiting. Blending melodic guitars, patterned drums, catchy vocals and dejected lyrics this track reminds me of The Heart Throbs in their heyday with the voice of singer/bassist Victoria Jenkins sounding remarkably similar to that of Rose Carlotti’s. Personally, even without the aforementioned comparisons, I think it’s the band’s best moment to date. More please! Facebook Continue reading Fragile Animals – Waiting
