Corolla – Psychic Girlfriend

There is more of a 1960s vibe on the new single from Chicago’s Corolla compared to the 1980s sound found on the previous single Forget This Song. There are plenty of hooks and vibes throughout both tracks here and I am thinking it’s a bit like The Smithereens meets The Shins. There is more of … Continue reading

Here’s The Thing…………………..

There was a raft of releases towards the end of last week. So much so that I thought another Bandcamp Friday was upon us judging by the number of emails in my inbox. So rather than write a post for each (I did say I wasn’t going to review anymore didn’t I haha) I thought … Continue reading

The Sunday Session

The sun has gone in and it’s p*ssing it down in London Town. Time to get stuck into more tunes resting on top of my digital back pile. Fowl Science hail from Toronto and, judging by the lack of anything else listed, The Flowering Eye is their debut release. The song is a catchy mix … Continue reading

Something For The Weekend? Three New Albums

A belated pack of three this weekend highlighting three new album releases. Moscow based Neonic Sundrive have just released their debut album. Titled Lies Paradise it features 10 tracks including the two recent lead singles Taste Your Lips and Collapsed Stars. The band’s sound is a mix of shoegaze and psychedelic rock with the odd … Continue reading

Dummy – Dummy EP

Dummy, the band led by ex Wildhoney member Joe Trainor, have released their self titled debut EP. It’s a great blend of styles featuring noise pop, shoegaze, fuzzy guitars, drone and ambient not to mention some psychedelic pop. Lead track Angel’s Gear has that in abundance, wowing me back in January and I have been waiting … Continue reading

Lebend – Chasing Ghosts

Lebend’s sound gets more expansive, vast with each release. On the new single Chasing Ghosts space rock fuses with shoegaze. The vocals, whilst prominent, become secondary to my attention as both guitars and synths produce reflections in sound at various points of the song. The former certainly adds hypnotic bursts throughout. Intriguing! Facebook

The Black Heart Death Cult – Sonic Dhoom

Sonic Dhoom is the first new material we have heard from Melbourne’s The Black Heart Death Cult since their debut album early last year. It’s fine piece of Asian inspired psychedelic done featuring some wonderful sitar work. I am pretty sure it’s a nod to Pete Kember. Flip side It’s Getting Heavy flirts with religion, … Continue reading

Weekend Round Up #2

I am writing this one later than expected and as I listen, being a nice varied mix on this blustery Sunday Night. Australian indiepop legends Even As We Speak will be releasing a new album on Shelflife Records and Discos De Kirlian in June. Forgiving is the first single to be lifted from said album … Continue reading

Records I Like Mix February 2020

Well a bit later than usual but finally here is the mix for February 2020 featuring tracks released in the past month or so – some a bit longer. 60 minutes of listening pleasure! Details and full tracklisting: Golden Teardrops – I Won’t Be Fooled Again Is that a bit of floor stompin’ northern soul … Continue reading

Something For The Weekend? Three From Down Under

This weeks pack of three features three bands from Australia. Relay Tapes – Dream Colour Brisbane’s Relay Tapes have been making ethereal shoegaze/dreampop for a couple of years now and the latest single Dream Colour is no exception to that rule. It’s not just the cover that evokes clouds and waves as this track does … Continue reading
