Various Artists – DBR 2023 Sampler

Dandy Boy Records (DBR) is a Californian based label who were previously known to me because of their Aluminum and The 1981 releases, not to mention their reissue of Seablite’s debut album. This handy pay what you want compilation is a good place to check out the other acts on their roster.

I have already started digital crate digging with some of the acts here. The fuzzy pop of Smile Too Much has drawn me right in and I have already snagged their recordings to date. Damned compilations eh? There is more pop fuzziness courtesy of husband/wife duo Funeral Cake, whose recordings to date have been encapsulated on the One Place Left EP.

Other highlights and acts to check out include The 1981 with the Spacemen Three tinged Notebook, which is taken from the recent Move On album. The girl group influenced Absolution will require me to check out Forest Bees in more depth, whilst Nothing Natural suggests that there is more to be gained via their self-titled EP. The hazy Psychedelia of Black Thumb also appeals.

Like all compilations, there are one or two tracks that do not grab me, but I am sure they will grab someone. For now, I am down the proverbial rabbit hole with some of the acts here which I am sure my ears will thank me for, whilst my post-Christmas bank balance less so!
