El Club Audiovisual – Ya No Somos Tan Solos

Argentinian dreampop/shoegaze band El Club Audiovisual release their debut album later this year on Casa del Puente Discos. Titled Ya No Somos Tan Solos it’s been preceded by two singles. The first single Portal, was released back in May and it’s now been followed by El Ritmo (Rhythm). The former is a slow-burning track that works it’s way up from measured guitars before breaking into a sweat unleashing some fuzzy riffs and echoing notes. The latter is straight out of the blocks grabbing your attention with some catchy vocals alongside jangling morphing into alt-rock strings. Both singles can be purchased … Continue reading El Club Audiovisual – Ya No Somos Tan Solos

Mashmellow – Someday Club EP

Moscow based Mashmellow have, after teasing us with two excellent singles, released their debut EP titled Someday Club. The EP consists of five tracks including those aforementioned singles which I have previously reviewed here and here. The band err on the poppier side of alt-rock/indie and after being spoilt by Share It and Heaven Is You I have to admit that on the first few listens the title track and Voices have washed over me without making a dent. However, they save the best to last on the final track Melt. It’s sounds a bit New Order-ish with dream pop … Continue reading Mashmellow – Someday Club EP

The Sunday Session

The sun has gone in and it’s p*ssing it down in London Town. Time to get stuck into more tunes resting on top of my digital back pile. Fowl Science hail from Toronto and, judging by the lack of anything else listed, The Flowering Eye is their debut release. The song is a catchy mix of shoegaze, alt-rock and post-punk. The synths give the song an emotive feel as does the repeated chorus of “they’re calling; they’re calling”. The Shop Window follow up their excellent previous single Mannequin Lies with new single Reflection. To be honest it does not grab … Continue reading The Sunday Session

Something For The Weekend? Three New Albums

A belated pack of three this weekend highlighting three new album releases. Moscow based Neonic Sundrive have just released their debut album. Titled Lies Paradise it features 10 tracks including the two recent lead singles Taste Your Lips and Collapsed Stars. The band’s sound is a mix of shoegaze and psychedelic rock with the odd hint of garage throughout as evidenced on the excellent Can You Feel and This Side Down. It’s available digitally from the band. Portland’s Jangle popsters The Crystal Furs have just released their third album. Or maybe not as the band explain. “Beautiful And True is … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three New Albums

Weathering/Ease Split

Weathering follow up last November’s debut single I Come Down with an appearance on this new split release with fellow Sunday Drive Records labelmates Ease which should not be that much as a surprise as both bands share members with Anxious Arms who are also on the label roster. Their contribution to the single Changing Colors is an exerting shoegaze affair with Elinor Carbone’s lovely voice standing out over the loud, vibrant and sometimes grungy guitars. Sadly the contribution from Ease isn’t my bag but if you are a fan of hardcore based music it may well tickle your tastebuds. … Continue reading Weathering/Ease Split
