The Angel Makers – Little Deaths

Little Deaths is one of two EPs released this month by Colchester’s The Angel Makers who have also recently expanded their line up. We were treated to a taster track in the shape of Too Late last month which whetted the appetite. Previously I described the band’s music as shoegaze, psychedelic and melancholic. On this EP those first two descriptions have long gone being replaced by programming which gives the first three tracks here a mechanical, robotic feel. The songs also sound devoid of any emotion despite the voice of Shauna Kelly. If that’s the effect they were aiming for … Continue reading The Angel Makers – Little Deaths

The Memory Fades – Space Pilot EP

The Memory Fades set the bar pretty high on their debut She Loves The Birds EP which was released earlier this year so the Space Pilot EP has a tough act to follow. Once again Stephen Maughan (Bulldozer Crash/Kosmonaut) is joined by a group of friends and flip me, they manage to pull it off once more. The opening and title track is a fuzzy pop number and contains the best end rhyming lyrics in indiepop circles (sky – high, been – seen) since The Mighty Lemon Drops. Talking of lyrics honey and candy feature in Listening to the Marychain … Continue reading The Memory Fades – Space Pilot EP

Las Densas – N ♡ T

N ♡ T is the result of a self-imposed challenge to see if an album could be recorded in seven days by Argentinian act Las Densas. Given the quality of the seven indiepop songs contained within I would say the challenge was well and truly smashed. For me, Las Densas are at their most effective on the short punk inspired bursts such as Untitled or Vos as I like the intensity. That said tracks like Cambie and Termina should not be discounted and I imagine if Stereolab sang in Spanish and recorded for Elefant Records they would sound somewhat similar. … Continue reading Las Densas – N ♡ T

Taking it one track at a time

Rei Clone – Lavender Lavender is the third single to be lifted from the forthcoming album Greetings From Somewhere. It’s more noise from these Texan shoegazers and this track reminds me a bit of early Lush. Roll on that album. Facebook The Reds, Pinks & Purples – Dead End Days (demo) Is there any more I can add about the The Reds, Pinks & Purples in addition to what I have written about them already? I thought not so I will let the music speak for itself and to be fair it’s doing a damn fine job! Noxantes – Fingers-Crossed … Continue reading Taking it one track at a time
