Tristesse Club – A New Tomorrow

Tristesse Club hail from Rennes, France and make music blending shoegaze and alt-rock. Citing influences such as Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, DIIV or Sonic Youth the band produce, on A New Tomorrow at least, a wall of noise that sees saddening passages or flickers of beauty passing through intermittently. Definitely not one for a chill out mix mind! Facebook Continue reading Tristesse Club – A New Tomorrow

Five Card Shuffle

A round up of sorts! Jetstream Pony have recently released a new track in the shape of Yellow Pills. Not sure the of the history of this one aside that it was recorded last Autumn but it’s a fine fuzzy pop song none the less. Crank it up. London label Damnably are releasing a compilation of Grrrl Gang’s work to date on vinyl and the solid lilac edition looks very nice indeed. Called Here To Stay it features nine tracks including two versions of the everlasting fave Dream Grrrl. Pre-order it from here. The Memory Fades posted a new demo … Continue reading Five Card Shuffle

BoxCat – Something

I posted about Boxcat’s debut single this time last year so it’s good to return to this Cardiff based band and their brand of punk rock a year later via their new EP Something. The aforementioned single was riot grrrl inspired but on the opening tracks here the band seem to have migrated over to a full on pop-punk sound. Not that is a bad thing as Ghost and Anti-Social Gathering demonstrate as the fuzzy guitars team up well with the joint female/male vocal passages. Got Money? with the opening reggae infused beats which gives way to power-pop guitars reminds me … Continue reading BoxCat – Something

Lemondaze – Neon Ballroom

Originally from Cambridge but now based in London Lemondaze have been gigging for a couple of years now. Neon Ballroom is the band’s debut single and I guess all that gigging has paid off as this is a blistering effort. There is more than a nod to the the shoegazers of years past but there are also elements of those bands who followed prior to the Britpop explosion. Someone on Bandcamp makes reference to Bleach and that’s not a bad shout. If you like your shoegaze intense and noisy then Neon Ballroom should be right up your street. Facebook Continue reading Lemondaze – Neon Ballroom

Tea Room – Devil May Care

Canadian band Tea Room are releasing a new EP at the end of the week entitled Dress Up, a title which is surely behind their belief that the world is just a huge costume party and we’re all playing erm, dress up! The EP is a mix of songs old and new with Devil May Care being the only taster for the EP released to date. It’s a noisy DIY power-pop song that suggests the rest of the EP is going to be just as good – probably! You can pre-order Dress Up from here. Facebook Continue reading Tea Room – Devil May Care

Mons Regalis – Lo Que Pasó

Lo Que Pasó is the second single from Mexican band Mons Regalis whose music has been previously described as dreampop/shoegaze. Personally I cannot hear any of that but what I do hear is an alternative/indie song that has some fine guitar riffs, catchy vocals, a bit of distortion and some noise. That sounds like a slab of perfect pop to me! Lo Que Pasó is out now digitally via Stupid Decisions ( Mexico) and Hikikomori Discos (Argentina) Continue reading Mons Regalis – Lo Que Pasó
