Gaarden – I Am Tired

Estonian/Russian dreampop band Gaarden, whose single Shiny Day will be riding high in my end of year lists, are releasing their debut album The Fall later this month on Australian label Library Group Records. Said single will appear on the album alongside taster track I Am Tired. I am not sure if a band have a trademark sound after just the one song but the band’s style was easily recognisable early into the song. Shimmering and jangling guitars compete with forlorn vocals which are backed up by despondent words. I think the album could be very good indeed. The Fall … Continue reading Gaarden – I Am Tired

Citrus Clouds – A Pastel Sky

Phoenix based dreampop/shoegaze band Citrus Clouds have announced a forthcoming second album titled Collider which is provisionally due for release in April next year. They have lifted the first single from the album in the shape of A Pastel Sky which is about the sunset in their native Arizona. You can almost see the colours form as the guitars shimmer whilst the band sing “I am floating, A million miles high” in said sky. Facebook Continue reading Citrus Clouds – A Pastel Sky

Still Corners – Live In The Studio

Still Corners have released a new digital single although it seems to be only available to stream and not too purchase. It consists of two songs the band recorded live at Abbey Road earlier this year. The first is a cover of Richard and Linda Thompson’s The Calvary Cross whilst the second is a live studio version of Black Lagoon which originally appeared on last years long player Slow Air. VIM – Waiting

Australian band VIM impressed greatly with 2017’s UKIYO EP and we have not heard from them since their appearance on the Songs For Stoph compilation album which was released early last year. On Waiting (an apt title!) the guitars guitars pick up the pace, shimmering as the female vocals stay in the background. The words are emphatic and will surely resonate with anyone who have found themselves in a similar situation. A welcome return…. Facebook Continue reading VIM – Waiting

UK Indiepop 2019

The UK indiepop revival that peaked a few years backed seem to have died out so I asked this question on Twitter the other day and it sparked a lot of chat and replies. Thanks to everyone who was involved. A number of the replies mentioned bands featured on this blog in the past whilst there were a lot of names that were new to me. I am not sure that some of the former met the criteria but as indiepop has a pretty wide ranging sound it seems to be a good idea to include them. So, with all … Continue reading UK Indiepop 2019

Lemondaze – Neon Ballroom

Originally from Cambridge but now based in London Lemondaze have been gigging for a couple of years now. Neon Ballroom is the band’s debut single and I guess all that gigging has paid off as this is a blistering effort. There is more than a nod to the the shoegazers of years past but there are also elements of those bands who followed prior to the Britpop explosion. Someone on Bandcamp makes reference to Bleach and that’s not a bad shout. If you like your shoegaze intense and noisy then Neon Ballroom should be right up your street. Facebook Continue reading Lemondaze – Neon Ballroom

Teen Idle – Dreaming

Teen Idle, aka New Jersey based Sara Barry, has been playing the guitar and singing since she was nine and started posting her work to Bandcamp in July 2018. Dreaming is the first work of hers I have heard and I hope it will not be the last. It’s a gentle, dreamy song that glides it’s way over a gentle guitar sound as Barry mournfully sings the somber words contained within. Sometimes sad, sometimes lovely but either way you look at it Dreaming is a great song which is ideal for listening in the diminishing light as the rain falls … Continue reading Teen Idle – Dreaming
