Night Hikes – Belltown (Single Version)

Belltown is the third single to be taken from the forthcomimg Chalice album and it could be the best one yet from this two piece band from Seattle. There is a real sense of story telling here as the very strong vocals take centre stage leaving the guitars and synths to shimmer in the background whilst the drums keep the song on track. To put it mildly Belltown is a very impressive single indeed. Facebook Continue reading Night Hikes – Belltown (Single Version)

Pia Fraus – Hidden Parks

Estonian dreampop band Pia Fraus have released a new single in the shape of Hidden Parks which is taken from the forthcoming new album. It’s a blissful track with some nice arrangements which fits in well with the falling autumn leaves outside my window. Like the previous single Sweet Sunday Snow it’s bundled with a number of remixes which may or may not enhance the track depending on your persuasion. I can easily live without the Wolfredt and Vanishing Twin remixes which do very little for me. That said things pick up up with the Erko Niit remix which adds … Continue reading Pia Fraus – Hidden Parks

Fog – Fictitious Fiction Fictitious

I wrote about Fog back in early February when their single Shine/Dreaming Dreaming Dreaming was released. Since then the Seoul based band have undergone a couple of line up changes and, as we start the descent towards the end of 2019, they have just released a new version of Fictitious Fiction Fictitious which originally appeared on their demo album The Harder We Push, The Faster We’ll All Get Outta Here. And what a transformation it is. Whereas the original hinted at beauty underneath, on this version it comes to the straight to the fore. When a song you liked it’s … Continue reading Fog – Fictitious Fiction Fictitious

Luby Sparks – Somewhere (Robin Guthrie Remix)

I must admit that the original version of Somewhere by Tokyo based Luby Sparks, which was released last month, did not do much for these ears. However I noticed it now has been given a make over by the Cocteau Twins Robin Guthrie so I delved in. Guthrie reduces the epic guitar sound of the original, concentrating on the vocals turning the song to into a blissful, ethereal classic. Dreampop? You bet! Lake Ruth – Extended Leave

Lake Ruth, who feature members of Holy Fuck, The New Lines, and The Eighteenth Day of May, will be releasing their new single as part of the Slumberland Records SLR30 Singles Series. The band’s music is inspired by space-pop, Krautrock, noir and baroque pop amongst others. Extended Leave explores these elements to great effect complete with a pulsating bass line and delicate vocals. It’s one for fans of Broadcast or Stereolab. Extended Leave will be backed by Strange Interiors and will be released by Slumberland Records at the beginning of next month on 7″ vinyl & digital formats. Pre-order from … Continue reading Lake Ruth – Extended Leave

Something For The Weekend? Three Albums

This weeks pack of three consists of three albums on my shopping list. Últim Cavall – Alaska This one has me hooked straight from the off. Literally straight from the opening bars of first track Els llacs which blends seamlessly into Incendi and then into current favourite Tornar A Casa it’s a dreamy journey throughout. It’s a case of not looking back and before you know it you reach the gentle vibes of the closing track Totes Les Flors. Alaska is an indiepop/dreampop album you can fully immerse yourself in and just let go. Divine. Alaska is available on vinyl … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three Albums
