Newscaster – Rumours

Plenty of weird and wonderful sounds inhabit the two tracks that can be found on this experimental sounding release. There is art-pop, post-punk, dub, psychedelia and even a bit of drone/krautrock. The music invokes memories of the likes of Can, Talking Heads, Scritti Politti and XTC. If that is the effect Newscaster are after then they are spot on. Interesting to say the least. I like. Posh Lost – Fortune

Dream pop meets post-punk on this EP from Posh Lost which is their first release for almost two and a half years. Recorded in the aftermath of the US elections and the surrounding political anxiety the EP opens with arguably it’s strongest track in the shape Denizen which is a full on retro sounding post-punk effort. It’s gloomy stuff, no surprise given the source subject, and none more on Hours Passing which takes it’s cue from New Order’s debut Movement. Only on Cortisol does the band fail to deliver as the mismatch of dreampop and post-punk proves too much but … Continue reading Posh Lost – Fortune

Records I Like 2018 – The Capsule!

If the 55 tracks in the Best of 2018 mixes/playlists were not enough I have compiled a track each from most of the releases featured on Records I Like in 2018 in a handy Spotify playlist. If you use Deezer don’t worry as here is a link to an almost identical playlist on that service. Have a great new year and I will “see” you all in 2019! Records I Like Podcast December – Best of 2018

55 tracks in my best of this year. Were they the best tracks in 2018? For me yes as they gave me plenty of plays, thoughts, meaning and enjoyment. Looking at the 55 choices my tastes have certainly changed this year. I have listened to Techno a lot more this year. Almost as much since I started listening to it 25 years plus ago and I was amazed that artists from then are still making some amazing tunes. Coldwave influenced post-punk gets stronger or maybe it’s because I am listening to and discovering more. Epic Shoegaze has also featured highly … Continue reading Records I Like Podcast December – Best of 2018

Fallen Star – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 13

Here is a final round up of all thing pots punk related for 2018. I am not sure I will continue with these separate post-punk playlists into 2019 as they barely get any play despite the number of hits the pages receive. Oh well. I guess visitors don’t love post-punk as much as me! Mind you I am old enough to remember it first time around…. Should you care for a listen click the image to start the playlist. More playlists can be found here and the Playmoss page is here. Continue reading Fallen Star – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 13

Now That’s What I Call Compilations…..

Today’s round up features compilations that may, or may not, grab your ears and attention….. Goodbye Idiots II A compilation put together to celebrate Mexican label Stupid Decisions second birthday. It features some excellent indiepop tunes from the likes of Marble Gods, Andrew Younker and Orchid Mantis amongst others. However it’s the new to me Perrogato and their track Fiesta Alienígena which is the pick of the bunch of those currently available for steaming. Pre-order it from here. Facebook Come On Feel The NoiZe, Vol. 2 – Americas´Attack The Blog That Celebrates Itself Records follow up last years Brazilian compilation … Continue reading Now That’s What I Call Compilations…..

Business Unusual…..

Time for a round up of post-punk singles & EP’s Product KF – Product Kf An interesting release this from the art work as well as the fact that they have just uploaded side one and two of a cassette to bandcamp without splitting the tracks. Musically it’s great. Opener Today is very Gang of Four especially the guitars whilst No Love In Our House sounds very raw, like an early Factory Records band demo. Talking of Factory they even cover Tunnelvision’s Hydroplanes. Essential post-punk listening. Primitive Lips – Image Of Truth Another great single. The incurious vocals contrast with … Continue reading Business Unusual…..

Ricky Hell – Nela Park

You may well miss this one as it rolls out in just 65 seconds. However, Nela Park is one of the catchiest songs I have heard for a long time despite the sombre lyrics. It is also the standout track on Ricky Hell’s new Blue Lips EP which contains two other two tracks both of which are also fine examples of post-punk inspired power pop. You can get it from Quality Time Records here. Continue reading Ricky Hell – Nela Park

The Records I Like Podcast – October 2018

I have been meaning to get back to using Mixcloud for a while now but I am a bit lazy and Playmoss is a doddle to use. But Mixcloud embeds in WordPress…. Anyway for this first “podcast” it features tracks mentioned on this blog, tracks from recent reissues and music I generally don’t cover. So enjoy! Full Tracklisting 1 – Pop Will Eat Itself – Sweet Sweet Pie Taken from the PWEI Def Coms 86-18 Compilation (Cherry Red) 2 – Say Sue Me – Just Joking Around The band’s current single (Damnably) 3 – Chasms – Divine Illusions Stunning yet … Continue reading The Records I Like Podcast – October 2018
