The Crystal Furs – Too Kind To Be Cruel

It’s over a year since we last heard from Portland’s The Crystal Furs. Well they are back with the new single Too Kind To Be Cruel which showcases their new Pacific Northwest sound. They write that ” it’s the Crystal Furs, new and improved, rebooted and reborn.”. As for the single itself it’s a well crafted, melodic indiepop track and is backed with a mono version of the same song. You can get it from here. The Sundries – Magic Johnson EP

The Sundries are an indiepop outfit from my current manor, South East London. They write that they are inspired by the likes of Belle & Sebastian and Allo Darlin’, being together for a few years now. I believe that the Magic Johnson EP is their debut outing. It certainly is their first release as a full band. Listening to the EP that latter influence is certainly true. The tracks err on the indie folk side of things but have too many ukuleles in for liking, reminding me of the days when every band and their dog had one. Mind you, … Continue reading The Sundries – Magic Johnson EP

Clubwater – Adult Angst

Clubwater are a band from Bandung, Indonesia and I believe, unless I am mistaken, that Adult Angst is their first song for a few years now. It’s a catchy track that draws on influences from the past using them to shape the track into a well crafted indiepop song. An EP, from which the song is taken, follows later this year on Shiny Happy Records. The artwork is fantastic, reminding me of New Order’s imagery from their last tour. Grab the track from here. Midweek Catch Up

Australian indiepop outfit Egoism have a new single out. Titled You You it’s about “someone in my life causing me a lot of pain and I wrote this when I was finally trying to get away”. Despite the pain it’s catchy and, empathy aside, I wish some break ups in my life had been as tuneful as this. Get it from here. Bedroom Poppers Wake In June released a new song last week. It’s called Light Phaser and it’s full of those melodies and hooks we have learnt to enjoy so well. There are also some new swirling noises thrown … Continue reading Midweek Catch Up
