I am writing this one later than expected and as I listen, being a nice varied mix on this blustery Sunday Night.
Australian indiepop legends Even As We Speak will be releasing a new album on Shelflife Records and Discos De Kirlian in June. Forgiving is the first single to be lifted from said album and it is, as you would expect from the band, to be a lovely twee/c86 inspired slab of pop music. The band play London’s Lexington on March 28th supported by Jetstream Pony and The Hannah Barberas. Guess who can’t make it – sigh. Talking of which….
Slow Glows have a new track out at present. Titled Sigh it is a dreamy, spacey shoegaze track with plenty of psychedelic overtones. One for gazing at the stars – or staring at the artwork to work out what you can see! Get it from here.
Chasms new single Limits mixes guitars and electronica. Jess Labrador’s vocal are mesmerising, dreamlike and whilst listening you can just imagine floating in the clouds. It’s backed with last November’s Until It Happens To You which was, and still is, a dazzling mix of melancholy and dance. Limits can be purchased from here.
Axolotes Mexicanos have come together once more after working on other projects in the shape of the new two track single Uwu. Both tracks Te Quiero (…) and Cuando Estoy Contigo are two jangling indiepop tracks. They certainly looked like they had fun making the video for the former. It’s out now digitally from Elefant Records.
The release of the self titled debut album from Nashville based Fever Blush is imminent. For now only the track Brick available to stream. But, what a track being a driving alternative rock song with female vocals dominating. I hope the band don’t mind me saying I hope it’s not the best track on the album as that means it will be something else! You can pre-order Fever Blush from here and if you do so before the 20th March all proceeds will be sent to the Nashville tornado relief efforts.
Scottish act Happy Spendy have a new EP out. Titled Ready When You Are it features five simple but effective synth pop songs which have an air of sadness about them. The music is delightful and are in contrast to the sombre words. The synth on the first two tracks is especially lovely to these ears. The Ready When You Are EP is out now on Lost Map Records.
Moscow’s Life On Venus have a new Live EP out at present. Titled Live at Flanger Studio March 2019 (not much effort there) it features four songs with two lifted from 2017’s Encounters album and two from last years Odes To The Void. Whilst it’s always good to hear May again (I forgot how great a track that is) it’s one of those releases that are for the fans. If you are new to them check out the aforementioned albums instead. Available on a pay what you want basis from the band.
Ikea Youth, which is the new single from London’s Qlowski, is a pulsating piece of post-punk with words that are convincing and sung with passion. Flip side is a cover of The Cure’s Grinding Halt which, to me, sounds better than the original! It’s available to pre-order on 7″ vinyl and digital formats from Maple Death Records or just digitally from the band.
Finally I am not surprised that last years single from Automatic Calling It has got the remix treatment. The original has bassline ripe for the picking and Peaking Lights has moulded it for the post-punk dance-floors with aplomb. Parts of it remind me of Grace Jones in places. Get it from here.
