Something for the Weekend? Three Post-Punk

This weeks features three of my post-punk picks from the past few weeks. Scary Black – Shadow Dwellers Shadow Dwellers is the debut album from Scary Black, an artist who has impressed me greatly this year. Mixing goth together with coldwave this is an excellent post-punk album and tracks like Not Tonite and The Crushing Weight are excellent examples of the genre. A must listen. Dark Embrace Me – A Post-Punk Mix

A post-punk mix featuring some of my most listened too post-punk tracks from the past few months. It primarily covers gothic rock and coldwave but also includes some other nuggets in between. Alternative stream at Hearthis.at Fall Tracklisting: Automatic – Calling It Calling It has thumping bass dominated groove with single tone, almost spoken, vocals that herald the arrival of the unclear synth sound. New Today – Snatch Taken from the recent New Today EP. Magnified Desire – Dead Flowers Australians Magnified Desire deliver two excellent synth-pop tracks that hark back to the early 1980s. Mannequin – Nocere

Mannequin deliver three fine coldwave tracks that should tickle the fancy of any post-punk fan. Whilst musically, they are not as dark some of the post-punk bands I have featured recently, there are still hints of darker waves amongst the melodic synths especially on the sometimes moody Them. It’s Lines however that piques my interest. Electronic beats complete with a catchy vocal performance suggest its headed straight down to the post-punk dance-floor which isn’t a bad place to be! Kill Shelter – In Decay/Bodies

Following on from last years debut album Damage released on French Label Unknown Pleasures Records Kill Shelter, aka Edinburgh based Pete Burns, has now released two tracks lifted from said album on Dutch label Burning World Records as a double-sided 7″ single. Both tracks are collaborations. In Decay features American outfit Delphine Coma whilst Bodies feature Australians Buzz Kull. These two songs, according to the label, explore death from different perspectives. But, that’s not all they have in common. Both are gloomy affairs mixing gothic rock and darkwave to great effect. The scowling vocals especially so. If, depressingly dark music … Continue reading Kill Shelter – In Decay/Bodies

Pawns – Monuments Of Faith

Monuments Of Faith is the title track from the forthcoming EP by New York based post-punk outfit Pawns. Musically it’s a fast paced slab of the darker side of post punk whilst the vocal style combines both hardcore and goth rock delivery which results in an impressive, melodic track. The EP is out soon on 7″ vinyl via London based label Inflammable Material. Facebook Continue reading Pawns – Monuments Of Faith
