Dark Embrace Me – A Post-Punk Mix

A post-punk mix featuring some of my most listened too post-punk tracks from the past few months. It primarily covers gothic rock and coldwave but also includes some other nuggets in between. Alternative stream at Hearthis.at Fall Tracklisting: Automatic – Calling It Calling It has thumping bass dominated groove with single tone, almost spoken, vocals that herald the arrival of the unclear synth sound. New Today – Snatch Taken from the recent New Today EP. Magnified Desire – Dead Flowers Australians Magnified Desire deliver two excellent synth-pop tracks that hark back to the early 1980s. The haunted, echoing vocals are … Continue reading Dark Embrace Me – A Post-Punk Mix

Various Artists – New Wave Of Hype

Indonesian label Dismantled have put together a compilation featuring five bands on their roster covering songs by The Wake. The first three songs are taken from The Wake’s output on Sarah Records whilst the final two tracks are taken from releases on Scan 45 and Factory Records. They are pretty good efforts. Les Mains Immaculees cover of Carbrain works really well as does The Sensitives’ gruff cover On Our Honeymoon. New Wave Of Hype is available digitally from Dismantled on a pay what you want basis or on extremely limited CDR from Heaven Punks. The Wake’s music can be purchased … Continue reading Various Artists – New Wave Of Hype

Pigments – Nothing at All

If imaginative dreampop is your thing then this EP from Oklahoma’s Pigments should be right up your street. Featuring four tracks that invokes the spirit of The Cranes, The Sundays and Faith Over Reason the songs are hazy, haunting & ethereal. The folkish vocal style suits the melodic and delicate guitars. It’s one of those releases where if you close your eyes you will lifted off to another plane. Probably! Continue reading Pigments – Nothing at All

Something For The Weekend? Three Power Pop Bands

This weeks pack of three feature three bands tagged as “Power Pop” on Bandcamp. Charm – No Gasoline/Second Chance Ontario’s Charm specialise in producing music that has it’s heart slam dunked into the power pop sounds of yesteryear. Taking their cue from the late 1970s and early 1980s new wave scene these two tracks bring joy to my retro heart. Second Chance is particularity strong and I keep thinking Blondie for some reason. Enjoyable stuff! Radioactivity – Erased Many of the tracks tagged as power pop I have been listening too recently have been slow burners going nowhere or shuffling … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Linda Guilala – Agosto

Spanish outfit and long time Records I Like faves Linda Guilala release the second in their limited edition vinyl single releases which are spread across various labels in 2019. Following up their recent single for London’s Sonic Catherdral Agosto will be released on German label Dreams Never Ends Records and consists of two previously unreleased tracks. Both tracks are darker than what we normally expect from the band, erring towards post-punk rather than indiepop but showcase the bands versatility. It’s the moody flipside Salga Bien that gets my vote reminding me of a gloomy Joy Division inspired Stereolab! Order the … Continue reading Linda Guilala – Agosto

Asimov – Evasión

Asimov come from Guatemala and Evasión is their second track/single – I somehow missed the first. Their music is a blend between post-rock, dreampop and shoegaze. The guitars are in an inquisitive mood and just as I start to think that Evasión will remain an instrumental some faint vocals can be heard before they disappear once more into the melodic, explorative guitars. Interesting! Continue reading Asimov – Evasión
