Say Sue Me – George & Janice/Don’t Follow Our Van

During their tour last year South Korean band Say Sue Me fell victim to a scam in Milan losing amongst other things tour takings, kit and personal belongings. They started a fundraiser back in February to cover costs, including those for a forthcoming tour, which has reached it’s target. As part of the fundraiser they recorded a single which is now available to those to those who were unaware of the fundraiser or were unable to donate at the time. George & Janice is another one of those 1960s surf/rock and roll inspired tracks the band seem to be producing … Continue reading Say Sue Me – George & Janice/Don’t Follow Our Van

Atta Girl – 九月(September)/错过(Regret)

The Chinese two piece Atta Girl (there is more than one band with that name!) return with a new single. The last we heard from them was back in 2017 with their Everyone Loves You When You Were Still A Kid album and the new single is a natural progression from where the aforementioned album left off. Both songs here sound much fuller and more rounded, bringing that bedroom pop sound out into the open. It’s September that grabs my attention with it’s mix of indiepop and shoegaze as it jangles it’s way through the maze of melodic guitars heading … Continue reading Atta Girl – 九月(September)/错过(Regret)

Layuchi Kvity – Белый порошок

Белый порошок (White Powder) is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming new album by Layuchi Kvity. Where as previous single >Девушка Которую Зовут Тишина (Girl Named Silence) was an excellent spin on shoegazing Белый порошок is a blast mixing noise pop, alt-rock and punk. No idea what they are singing about (and I can make a guess given the translated title) but the words have a call to arms, anthem like feel about them. Bouyant stuff – play extremely loud!!! Facebook Continue reading Layuchi Kvity – Белый порошок

Wake In June (feat Reason Light) – Space Cadet

Padua based Wake In June (Enrico Pastore) have teamed up with Malaga’s Reason Light (Manè Lòpez) in a show of European unity. Well that of the indiepop kind that is! With both on writing duties I expected the song to veer between both artists musical styles but it actually sounds more like a Wake In June Track. However, given that this is a rework of a Wake In June demo that should be no surprise. Space Cadet is a dreamy, jangling pop song with the addition of synths, whistling and echoing background vocals demonstrating how good DIY bedroom pop can … Continue reading Wake In June (feat Reason Light) – Space Cadet

The Flatmates – Shut Up and Kiss Me

Indiepop stalwarts The Flatmates release a new single next month on the brand new Greek based label Old Bad Habits. Shut Up and Kiss Me is the sound of a band doing what they do best. Thriving guitars, melodic keyboards and singer Lisa Bouvier’s attention grabbing vocals making this a song hard to miss. It’s backed with another new track Rescue Me and there is also a new album in the works. The single will be available in 7″ and digital formats and you can pre-order it from here. Facebook Continue reading The Flatmates – Shut Up and Kiss Me

Sugar World – Sad in Heaven

Here’s one that’s been pretty much on repeat all day. Sad in Heaven is one of those fuzzy indiepop tracks that will penetrate your brain given the number of hooks and earworms it contains. Despite the maudlin words the song just buzzes around incessantly even after it ends. I have no idea who San Diego’s Sugar World are or why they are so glum but keep this up and it will be good while it lasts. Marvellous. Facebook Continue reading Sugar World – Sad in Heaven

Echoscope – What We Lost EP

Andover’s Echoscope are a two piece gothic-rock act comprising of James Winter and Maisie Clark. The What We Lost EP is their debut demo EP. And what a find for the post-punk fan it is. The songs are strong whilst the words are dark but meaningful and are sung in an emotional style. Musically the songs are melodramatic, being guitar dominated in the main although we do get a track that is synth driven in the shape of When We Fall which gives a nod to early 1980s coldwave. Whilst I could chuck the usual suspects at you for comparisons … Continue reading Echoscope – What We Lost EP

Red Sleeping Beauty and Cristina Quesada – Chicas De Madrid / Love At Third Sight

Chicas De Madrid sees Swedish indie/synth pop legends Red Sleeping Beauty join forces with Elefant’s Spanish Pineapple Princess Cristina Quesada. It’s written by Niklas Angergård of the former whilst the latter applies her voice. It’s a rework of New York City Girls from Red Sleeping Beauty’s recent Stockholm album. It’s a slow paced synth pop track that glides along nicely thanks to the vocals with pointers being the likes of Saint Etienne, Hop Chip and even The K.L.F. It’s backed with a rework (cover version?) of Quesada’s recent Love At Third Sight single with the male vocals giving the song … Continue reading Red Sleeping Beauty and Cristina Quesada – Chicas De Madrid / Love At Third Sight
