Herlights – Sometimes

Russian band Herlights are back with their first release of 2019 with the Sometimes EP. If you have been following the band I guess you will know what to expect but if not their music blends post-punk, dreampop, shoegaze and to a lesser extent post-rock. The songs feature the now trademark brooding vocals whilst the translucent guitars shimmer brightly as ever. There isn’t much to differentiate each tune but seeing as Herlights rarely deviate away from their self-designed template that doesn’t come as a surprise. Sometimes though, I think it would be nice to break that mould. Until then this … Continue reading Herlights – Sometimes

Asimov – Evasión

Asimov come from Guatemala and Evasión is their second track/single – I somehow missed the first. Their music is a blend between post-rock, dreampop and shoegaze. The guitars are in an inquisitive mood and just as I start to think that Evasión will remain an instrumental some faint vocals can be heard before they disappear once more into the melodic, explorative guitars. Interesting! Continue reading Asimov – Evasión

Say Sue Me – George & Janice/Don’t Follow Our Van

During their tour last year South Korean band Say Sue Me fell victim to a scam in Milan losing amongst other things tour takings, kit and personal belongings. They started a fundraiser back in February to cover costs, including those for a forthcoming tour, which has reached it’s target. As part of the fundraiser they recorded a single which is now available to those to those who were unaware of the fundraiser or were unable to donate at the time. George & Janice is another one of those 1960s surf/rock and roll inspired tracks the band seem to be producing … Continue reading Say Sue Me – George & Janice/Don’t Follow Our Van

August Round Up #1

I have been ploughing through my inbox following a week away. Here are some of the best. Well Whale – She’s a Punk She’s a Punk is the debut single from Indonesian band Well Whale. Jangly and twee and no punk chords in sight. A fun indie-pop tune. Instagram Ruby Haunt – Jeune Jeune is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming album The Middle of Nowhere which is due for release at the end of the month. Reminds me of the indiepop bands Heavenly used to put out many moons ago. Mesmerising and heartfelt. Facebook Charivari – … Continue reading August Round Up #1

The Wellington – It’s So Fine

Indonesian band The Wellington follow up their recent split single with The Sweetest Touch with a taster for their forthcoming debut album. It’s So Fine sees the band drop the psychedelic and baroque influences from the aforementioned split single and replacing them with a sound reminiscent of Creation Records 1989/90. Given that the latest Ride album is yet another disappointment The Wellington are a worthy replacement to fill their shoes based on this excellent dreamy, retro sounding track. Roll on that album! Soundcloud Continue reading The Wellington – It’s So Fine
