Spanish shoegazers Swimming Pool greatly impressed on January’s self titled debut. Now they are back with a new EP on Brighton’s Shore Dive Records. It’s a sensuous EP opening with Tu Carta which is a combination of melodic patterns and flickering guitars. The voice of Elena Casado is a delight as it weaves it’s way through the song. The EP surprised me in it’s gentleness. Songs like Mágico Sol are calm and restrained and whilst the guitars are more prominent on Brillando Solo it has the same assuaging effect. Say Sue Me release their new single Your Book on October 4th 2019. It’s backed with Good People. On Your Book the band refrain from the surf rock/rock ‘n roll that has infused their recent releases and return to their alternative rock and shoegazing roots. It’s a melodic track that is slow burning only being interrupted by a frantic burst of guitars before pausing and returning on it’s path. The calm, assured vocals suit the desolate words. Herlights – Sometimes

Russian band Herlights are back with their first release of 2019 with the Sometimes EP. If you have been following the band I guess you will know what to expect but if not their music blends post-punk, dreampop, shoegaze and to a lesser extent post-rock. The songs feature the now trademark brooding vocals whilst the translucent guitars shimmer brightly as ever. There isn’t much to differentiate each tune but seeing as Herlights rarely deviate away from their self-designed template that doesn’t come as a surprise. Asimov – Evasión

Asimov come from Guatemala and Evasión is their second track/single – I somehow missed the first. Their music is a blend between post-rock, dreampop and shoegaze. The guitars are in an inquisitive mood and just as I start to think that Evasión will remain an instrumental some faint vocals can be heard before they disappear once more into the melodic, explorative guitars. Say Sue Me – George & Janice/Don’t Follow Our Van

During their tour last year South Korean band Say Sue Me fell victim to a scam in Milan losing amongst other things tour takings, kit and personal belongings. They started a fundraiser back in February to cover costs, including those for a forthcoming tour, which has reached it’s target. As part of the fundraiser they recorded a single which is now available to those to those who were unaware of the fundraiser or were unable to donate at the time.
