The Hermits – Ruby Red Summer

Ruby Red Summer was originally released back in 2017 on the band’s tour tape and is now going to be released as part of the band’s debut album. It’s a track that transcends boundaries and mixes indiepop, garage and krautrock which is a far better selection than the Pick N’ Mix at your local store. The self titled debut album is released next month on Austin Town Hall Records. Pre-order it from here. Faceboook Continue reading The Hermits – Ruby Red Summer

Funeral Advantage – Black House

Funeral Advantage release their new EP/mini album Nectarine next month and Black House is the first track to be lifted from it. I am not sure if the track is fully representative of the rest of the new album as it’s sound has moved significantly away from 2017’s guitar driven Please Help Me whilst Black House is a tasty slab of synth driven dreampop (surely gloompop!). Who knows what the new album will bring but for now I am enjoying this one. You can pre-order Nectarine from here. Homepage Continue reading Funeral Advantage – Black House

Off Models – Fast Life

Fast Life is taken from French band Off Models debut album Never Fallen In Love. I have and it’s with this song. It’s a case of addictive and enjoyable indiepop that is full of fun featuring sunny guitars with catchy lyrics/vocals. If you are not at least smiling after hearing this song then I suggest you take a trip to A&E whilst I check out the rest of the album. Never Fallen In Love is out in a range of formats across a range of labels. Best head to over to the band’s page for more info. Facebook Continue reading Off Models – Fast Life

Penny and the Jets – Natural Like This

Filipino band Penny and the Jets are two sisters who have previously released the Night Dances EP at the end of 2017. Natural Like This has been recorded for the soundtrack of a short film called Andrew. The song itself is a gentle paced indiepop effort with hushed vocals and harmonious guitars and, whilst not life changing, is worthy of being added to your indiepop listening pile. Get it from here. Continue reading Penny and the Jets – Natural Like This

Makthaverskan – Demands

I was wondering if we would hear from Makthaverskan after the recent Westkust single and a week later what do you know? I don’t think this band are ever going to fail to deliver and this is straight up, dyed-in-the-wool, indiepop. If you ever wondered what Bjork would sound like fronting The Primitives then give this one a go! Thoroughly wonderful. Demands, which will be backed by Onkel, will be out later this month on 7″ vinyl/digital via Luxury Records. Pre-order it here. Facebook Continue reading Makthaverskan – Demands

Mirror Decay – Mirror Decay EP

Barcelona’s Mirror Decay open this, their debut EP, with a pretty damn jaw dropping moment in the shape of Radio. It’s a beautiful track that reminds me of Talulah Gosh’s finest moments. The singers voice is just beautiful over the jangling guitars which at points sound like Blondie’s Dreaming. The backing vocals are pretty damn perfect too. I had better stop gushing now! The rest of the EP gives the band a chance to show that the opener was not a flash in the pan. It’s not. They even come close to matching it on Wrong and the slow and … Continue reading Mirror Decay – Mirror Decay EP

Parsnip/The Shifters – Hip Blister

Split single from two of the current crop of Melbourne bands, both of whom have contributed three tracks each. However, at time of writing, only one track from each band is (was) available for streaming. The wonderful Parsnip have featured on these pages before and on Counterfeit they deliver another slice of girl band inspired goodness. The Shifters are a new name on me and they contrast greatly to their release mates. Only one thought crossed my mind whilst listening to Photo Op and that was is that The Fall I am hearing? Actually it was two thoughts and the … Continue reading Parsnip/The Shifters – Hip Blister
