Rei Clone – Lavender Lavender is the third single to be lifted from the forthcoming album Greetings From Somewhere. It’s more noise from these Texan shoegazers and this track reminds me a bit of early Lush. Roll on that album. Chain Wallet – World I Used to Call Mine

Norwegian outfit Chain Wallet have taken a third single from their forthcoming (difficult?) second album No Ritual. World I Used to Call Mine has guitars that shine above the melodrama of the song which has it’s roots in the early 1980’s new wave/powerpop era. The track is full of energy and, despite the moodiness of the words, plenty of enthusiasm. No Ritual is due out in the middle of next month on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital formats. Crystalline – Repeat Repetition

Southend-On-Sea based Crystalline is the project of one Nicholas Cook and Repeat Repetition is his debut. The EP consists of four songs that crosses the divide between 1980’s indie, jangle pop and post punk. You only have to look at the stunning artwork to pick that vibe up! Cook’s vocals are reminiscent of the late Pete Shelly’s none more so than on opener Perfect Bronze as he scowls his way through the song. The Belafontes – Roll On

The Belafontes have compiled the four tracks they have released on bandcamp over the past year and released them on vinyl and cassette formats alongside the usual digital ones. Westkust – Swebeach

Swedish band Westkust, who feature two members of Makthaverskan in their ranks, have released their first new track for almost four years. Swebeach is a swirling , motoring indiepop track with an infectious guitar sound and strong female vocals. That’s always a winning formula for me. Black Sand – Endless Blue

Do you remember Spacemen 3? Black Sand do right down to the reverb drenched music, the song titles and the lyrics that refer to religion and other pursuits. Even his profile pic reminds me of Pete Kember! And do you know what else Black Sand has in common with Spacemen 3? They (well he) also make bloody fantastic spaced out and trippy psychedelic tunes that could drone on and on as far as I am concerned. The Cut-Outs – Noise in Melody EP

The first track on this EP, Comatose, is a short and noisy but powerful driving jangle pop song. It’s way too frantic and attention grabbing to be it’s title! To be honest it’s the only reason I have given this EP a mention. Maybe the other songs will grow on me (Blossoms isn’t to far off to be fair) but in the main I find them a bit long and drawn out for my liking. Only if they were as short as that opening track! Records I Like Podcast December – Best of 2018

55 tracks in my best of this year. Were they the best tracks in 2018? For me yes as they gave me plenty of plays, thoughts, meaning and enjoyment. Looking at the 55 choices my tastes have certainly changed this year. I have listened to Techno a lot more this year. Almost as much since I started listening to it 25 years plus ago and I was amazed that artists from then are still making some amazing tunes. Alles Club – Décollage

Quite a journey this one which crosses the borders of shoegaze, post rock and dream pop whilst on it’s travels. The instrumental title track opens the proceedings with post rock guitars merged with voices recorded from the TV or radio. It blends into another eight minute plus track in the shape of Quanto Tempo which has a poppier sound spruced with some trumpets. Despite not sounding like it, it is effective and works amazingly well! Sadly our ride comes off the rails with the well meaning but ultimately unsatisfying Libélula.
