Layuchi Kvity – Белый порошок

Белый порошок (White Powder) is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming new album by Layuchi Kvity. Where as previous single >Девушка Которую Зовут Тишина (Girl Named Silence) was an excellent spin on shoegazing Белый порошок is a blast mixing noise pop, alt-rock and punk. No idea what they are singing about (and I can make a guess given the translated title) but the words have a call to arms, anthem like feel about them. Bouyant stuff – play extremely loud!!! August Round Up #1

I have been ploughing through my inbox following a week away. Here are some of the best. Well Whale – She’s a Punk She’s a Punk is the debut single from Indonesian band Well Whale. Jangly and twee and no punk chords in sight. A fun indie-pop tune. Instagram Ruby Haunt – Jeune Jeune is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming album The Middle of Nowhere which is due for release at the end of the month. Reminds me of the indiepop bands Heavenly used to put out many moons ago. Mesmerising and heartfelt. Facebook Charivari – … Continue reading August Round Up #1

Redhead – Spiral

Redhead is the new project from Andrew Simmonds, ex member and songwriter for Donna Hayward. On this, his debut EP, Simmonds is joined by members of Astragal and Groundhog Day. Not being familiar with Donna Haywards work Spiral is an engaging listen that crosses into various territories such as alt-rock and post-punk. The EP also gets stronger the further in it gets and by the time the closer Name (Room) ends you may, like me, head back to the first track and start all over again. It’s certainly one for those who like listening to angst riddled music. Spiral is … Continue reading Redhead – Spiral

The Records I Like Mix July 2019

A new mix compiling tracks from the past month or so. Plenty of C86 influenced music this time alongside the usual mix of shoegaze, janglepop and alt-rock. Full Tracklisting: Death Of Heather – Mind It’s a song that features slow simmering guitars that echo profoundly alongside hushed vocals which sing of someone who isn’t out of mind but yet isn’t here or there. The Proctors – Letters To The Girl And what a belter we have on our hands, well ears! Jangling guitars, catchy boy/girl vocals and a melody to die for. Holy Now – It Will All End In Tears … Continue reading The Records I Like Mix July 2019

The Popguns – Carrying The Fire EP

The Popguns have built upon the two tracks they submitted to WIAIWYA for their recent The Moon And Back – One Small Step For Global Pop compilation celebrating the 50th anniversary of the The Apollo 11 Moon landings (or did they eh, eh?) for this new EP – or Space Operetta as the band say. Both of the aforementioned contributed tracks are here and one, the title track with it’s title lifted from astronaut Michael Collins’ autobiography, is a rousing guitar driven track asking “are you ready to go…….one step” which is sung singer Wendy Pickles in a raucous manner. … Continue reading The Popguns – Carrying The Fire EP
