Midweek Catch Up

Australian indiepop outfit Egoism have a new single out. Titled You You it’s about “someone in my life causing me a lot of pain and I wrote this when I was finally trying to get away”. Despite the pain it’s catchy and, empathy aside, I wish some break ups in my life had been as tuneful as this. Get it from here. Bedroom Poppers Wake In June released a new song last week. It’s called Light Phaser and it’s full of those melodies and hooks we have learnt to enjoy so well. There are also some new swirling noises thrown … Continue reading Midweek Catch Up

Records I Like Mix February 2020

Well a bit later than usual but finally here is the mix for February 2020 featuring tracks released in the past month or so – some a bit longer. 60 minutes of listening pleasure! Details and full tracklisting: Golden Teardrops – I Won’t Be Fooled Again Is that a bit of floor stompin’ northern soul I can hear creeping into to their brand of baroque/sunshine pop? I think it is you know! The Lousy Pop Group – Days It’s a gentle, wistful track that harks back to 1980s indiepop/twee and which fades away far too soon. Wild Nothing – Blue … Continue reading Records I Like Mix February 2020

Midweek Catch Up #1 – Indiepop &c

A catch up of stuff caught on the Records I Like Radar. The Radio Dept. have released a new single. Titled The Absence of Birds it’s backed with a remix of the same song. The former is a wispy indiepop song with folk-ish overtones whilst the latter mixes ambient with drone. You can get it from here. Diet Cig released a new track at the end of last month. Titled Night Terrors it’s a fine example of alternative pop with scary lyrics to match – boo! You can get it from here. Medway Scene veterans The Claim have a new … Continue reading Midweek Catch Up #1 – Indiepop &c

Meltway – From Blue

Meltway are a new Danish/Norwegian band who write that they are a “dreamy and noisy indie-rock heavily inspired by the 90’s shoegaze-scene”. They release their debut EP titled Everytime next week and have previewed the track From Blue as a taster. It’s a longish track which takes those influences into account and I like the way the guitars merge with the breezy vocals giving a spacious aura to the track. The Everytime EP is released on February 10th 2020 in digital formats and can be pre-ordered from here. Facebook Continue reading Meltway – From Blue

Sicayda – Caught in the Rain

Sicayda’s new single features some of the heavier elements in the Toronto based band’s armoury. It also features some of their most melodic moments too. It’s the latest single in the bands series which sees them taking an older song and welding it together with some new ideas in order to demonstrate their new approach and sound. A new EP is due to follow in July this year. Facebook Continue reading Sicayda – Caught in the Rain

Silent Run – Side A [EP]

Russian band Silent Run hail from the city of Nizhny Novgorod and Side A features the first part of a live session that the band recorded last year. They make a blend of music that mixes alt-rock, post-rock and shoegaze. As it is recorded live some of their songs come over as loud and raw especially on the driving and noisy instrumental Because Fuck You, That’s Why! They demonstrate that they can do the “not so severe side” just as well as evidenced on the gentle opener Drone A. Highlight for me is Awake as the female vocals give the … Continue reading Silent Run – Side A [EP]

Meadowlake – Blood Crawls

I have not heard of Dutch band Meadowlake previously but have recently stumbled across Blood Crawls which I believe is the second single to be taken from their forthcoming second album. Musically and vocally you get the impression that the song is calm and unagitated. However the words suggest otherwise, with the songs protagonist being both angry and upset. I am not sure if this type of song is generally the norm when it comes to Meadowlake’s output and I guess there is only one way to find out. However for now, and despite the despondency, Blood Crawls will do. … Continue reading Meadowlake – Blood Crawls
