Tallies – Mother

This track came out as a single back in May but I can finally give it a plug as it’s going to be on the forthcoming debut album. Starting like a northern soul floor stomper it soon morphs into alt rock – think Belly or Throwing Muses and singer Sarah Cogan’s vocals are on a par with the singers in both those bands. There is also some lovely jangling indiepop guitars throughout the song giving another angle which you will soon become entwined in. What’s not too like? The album, also called Tallies, will be out early next year on … Continue reading Tallies – Mother

Flowers – Do What You Want To, It’s What You Should Do

My main worry with Do What You Want To, It’s What You Should Do was that it would be way too over produced /polished (by Bernard Butler) but thankfully that’s not the case despite their previous fuzzy guitar sound being muted somewhat. Rachel Kenedy’s vocals are as ethereal as ever and on parts send shivers down your spine. This album deserves your attention at least once. It gets mine more. Do What You Want To, It’s What You Should Do is out now. Buy from Fortuna Pop (UK/EU) or Kanine Records (US) Facebook Continue reading Flowers – Do What You Want To, It’s What You Should Do

Flowers – Joanna

Here is another track taken from Flower’s debut album Do What You Want To, It’s What You Should Do which is due out next month. New single Joanna was originally released last year on Oddbox Records and whilst this version a bit more polished thankfully it does not lose much of it’s rawness. Indeed Rachel’s voice is stunningly brought to the fore! Joanna is out later this month as a limited edition 7″ single. The album will be out on Fortuna Pop (UK/EU) and Kanine Records (US) on September 8th & 9th. Facebook Continue reading Flowers – Joanna

Flowers – Young

Young is taken from Flowers forthcoming debut album Do What You Want To, It’s What You Should Do which is due out in early September on Fortuna Pop (UK/EU) and Kanine Records (US). A lovely, lovely song and I cannot wait to hear the rest. You can buy Young digitally from Bandcamp. EDIT: A nice interview with band member Rachel can be found at DOA – adequacy.net Facebook Continue reading Flowers – Young

Fear Of Men – Alta/Waterfall

Brighton based Fear Of Men release their début album Loom on April 21st (a day later in the States) on Kanine Records in a range of formats including a limited edition coloured vinyl set for Record Store Day (19th April). I must admit it took me a while to appreciate the band’s previous output collated on last years Early Fragments but Loom’s opening tracks Alta and Waterfall, both previewed here, are impressive to say the least. You can pre-order Loom here. Homepage Continue reading Fear Of Men – Alta/Waterfall

Flowers – Until You’re Dead EP

This week has seen the first release on Fortuna Pop from the ever wonderful Flowers. The band have signed to Kanine Records stateside so hopefully a US release will follow for fans across the pond. Until then buy it here. You can also get it digitally from the likes of Rough Trade. Stuck is the third song from the single and just features singer Rachel singing alone somewhat ethereally with just a one string bass for company.
