Recommended Releases 08/08/2022

Continuing the series of posting albums and/or EPs as and when they are released (or usually a bit after!) as a follow up to the initial new tracks/singles posts posted on this blog. Sample the release via the You Tube track then dive in to the full release.

Slo Moon – Off World

(Please Don’t Wake Me, I’m Dreaming) “My attention was grabbed straight away at the beginning of this track with it’s Future Sound Of London/Deep Forest sampling meeting the Cocteau Twins vibe.”

(Fading) “Imagine the Cocteau Twins with a male vocalist instead of Elizabeth Fraser and you may understand what I am getting at here as the swirling ethereal sound envelopes you.”

Off World is out now.

Castlebeat – Half Life

“Playing to their strengths, Looking for Something sounds like a dreampop tune fronted by a post-punk (spirit goth?) singer. It works and it works very well. ”

“The mix of post-punk and indiepop on those (recent) singles have been particularly ear catching and Cinema is no exception to that rule. Whilst the bands template doesn’t deviate all to often of late, the tracks are pretty infectious and the jangling sounds of Cinema will remain in the consciousness long after the song has ended.”

Half Life is out now via Spirit Goth Records.

Tallies – Patina

(No Dreams Of Fayres) “It’s a beautiful song with Cogan’s voice soaring above the swirling synths and jangling guitars. The band have built upon the 1990s inspired dreampop found on their 2019 self titled debut album and at one point, mainly thanks to the video, I was wondering if I was hearing a indiepop version of Massive Attack’s Blue Lines.”

Patina is out now via Bella Union (UK), Hand Held Dracula (US) and Kanine Records (Can).
