The Empty Shell – Faint Light EP

Naufal Azhari is the person behind Bandung based The Empty Shell who have just released their debut release in the form of three track The Faint Light EP. Opener Put It Behind You is a a slow paced dreamy indiepop track with shoegaze influences that echoes to the sound of days long past. The same is true for You Can’t Hide which gives nods towards the likes of The Wake and The Sea Urchins both musically and lyrically. Disappear brings proceedings to a close, dwelling in a pool of despair. An impressive EP and another fine addition to the list … Continue reading The Empty Shell – Faint Light EP

Plenērs – Būris

Plenērs hail from Riga and on new track Būris they supply a tasty slice of new wave inspired post-punk which contains enough hooks and melodies to declare it anthem like. Well almost! Let me give it another couple of spins first. As Google Translate failed to decipher the band’s native Latvian into English I have no idea what the song is about. I hope is not doom and gloom as I would then feel guilty about jumping around to this one. Or maybe not. Superb artwork too. Facebook Continue reading Plenērs – Būris

яблоня- еврокафе

Moscow’s Apple Tree have just released their first new track in just over year. Titled еврокафе (eurocafeby if google translate has got it right) it’s a coldwave inspired post punk track with a slow burning sound. The female vocals sound downcast and gloomy whilst the lyrics forlornly hope for better things. As it continues to sheet it down in London town еврокафе seems to be an appropriate soundtrack as any. The Post (Punk) Ear Infection Catch Up Post #3

Quite a lot of post-punk has been bookmarked this year without too much of a mention on these pages. Time to rectify that. Das Funus come from one of my favourite cities (Prague) and they released two tracks in February. These are their first recordings for a few years. The band’s sound is darkwave with an epic Gothic tinge. Bože Odpověz errs on the edge of midnight whilst the slower paced Staré Domy highlights the female vocals which I am always a sucker for. Stream and/or buy from here. Brussels’ (yep another fave) based Ultra Sunn aim for the post-punk … Continue reading The Post (Punk) Ear Infection Catch Up Post #3

The Crystal Furs – Too Kind To Be Cruel

It’s over a year since we last heard from Portland’s The Crystal Furs. Well they are back with the new single Too Kind To Be Cruel which showcases their new Pacific Northwest sound. They write that ” it’s the Crystal Furs, new and improved, rebooted and reborn.”. As for the single itself it’s a well crafted, melodic indiepop track and is backed with a mono version of the same song. You can get it from here.
