Arista Fiera – Tu Familia

Malaga’s Arista Fiera will be releasing their debut album later this year. The first single to be lifted from it is Tu Familia (Your Family) and it’s a fine slice of female fronted indiepop with fuzzy guitars and obscured synths. The lyrics tell the story of a relationship from the past, the people who were encountered alongside the memories and nostalgia that it brings. Tu Familia is available in digital formats from El Genio Equivocado Homepage Continue reading Arista Fiera – Tu Familia

The Friday Round Up

For those unaware Bandcamp are running a Covid-19 fundraiser today which seems them waiving their revenue share so that all monies go directly to supporting the artists. You can read about that here. If you can buy just one release that would help the artists concerned and the fundraiser lasts until Midnight Pacific Time tonight (7am in the UK). Onto the round up. It’s been two years since we last from Dunedin’s Astro Children. On new single Milk the band move away from their alt-rock/shoegazing roots and instead is a vibrant alternative pop song. Well worth the wait and it’s … Continue reading The Friday Round Up

Kent Valley – Blueworks

Here is a find courtesy via Twitter and the user amaotomemo who kindly created me a playlist to help tide me over whilst I work from home during the Covid-19 crisis. It was a pretty good playlist and hopefully I will share more finds but this track caught my ear more than most. I know nothing about the artist and a search does not bring up anything either. Suffice to say this is a charming track which was released last month. It’s a lo-fi synth (twee synth?) based indiepop that has some lovely noises, vocals and melody. Blueworks only seems … Continue reading Kent Valley – Blueworks

The Reds, Pinks & Purples – You Might Be Happy Someday

I vowed recently not to post each release from The Reds, Pinks & Purples because they are so frequent. However when the songs are as good as these such intentions go out of the window. You Might Be Happy Someday opens with some upbeat percussion before Glenn Donaldson’s now trademark vocals couple nicely with the thriving backing instruments. The sombre words give the game away. Sing Red Roses For Me sounds even better as the melodic guitars echo to the Field Mice and other UK indiepop influences from the past. Promise broken! Continue reading The Reds, Pinks & Purples – You Might Be Happy Someday

Oxy – PRWG

The new single from Brazilians Oxy is a raucous romp through indie rock, tinged with shoegaze. PRWG (short for Personal Red Wine and the Government) rages at all and sundry whilst the vocals of singer Sara Cândido reminds me of one time Tricky collaborator Martina Topley-Bird who also sang with the same intelligence and venom. The closing words sum it up. “Wasting my wine, I’m not feeling fine, I feel like we’ll die, Voting for more lies”. Brazil or the UK? Sadly, it’s the same difference. Facebook Continue reading Oxy – PRWG

Origan – Amour De Zoulette

French indie poppers band Origan release their debut EP on Greek label Melotron Recordings early next month. Titled T’es Pas Un Amour it features six tracks including EP teaser Amour De Zoulette which brings together dreamy vocals and synths mixed with guitars and electronica. The vocal are delight, soon becoming infectious as boy/girl voices sing an unintelligible chant/chorus/passage – given a listen and you will hear what I mean. T’es Pas Un Amour is available in CD (including an extremely limited and almost sold out art edition) and digital formats. Pre-order it from here. Facebook Continue reading Origan – Amour De Zoulette
