Candace – DM-100

Candace hope to release their second album later this year via Little Cloud Records – present circumstances permitting of course. DM-100 is the first single to be lifted from the album. The band write that “This song is about four things especially: 1. Driving around with someone you love / 2. Waiting for something “big” to happen / 3. Destinations unknown / and 4. The dichotomy between who we are and who we seem to be.” It’s a lovely slice of dreampop to be sure. You can get it from here. Homepage Facebook Continue reading Candace – DM-100

The Hannah Barberas – Into The Wild

The debut album from South East London based indiepop band The Hannah Barberas manages not only to bring a smile to one’s face in these testing times but to get one thinking hard too. Some of the tracks are familiar friends but now sound even more settled in their new home! The frantic with worry but eventually joyous Our Girl is Gone was on their debut EP whilst Slow Cooked, originally on their second EP, still sounds magnificent and deserves a wider audience as possible. Hurry On Home appeared on Dial H for Hannah Barberas and is C86 inspired indiepop … Continue reading The Hannah Barberas – Into The Wild

The Angel Makers – Deliquesce/Crystallize

Colchester’s The Angel Makers have moved into ambient territory on their new single which they describe as an “isolation mini mix tape for your quarantine dreams”. Opener Deliquesce sounds like an ambient remix of Slowdive’s Souvlaki Space Station with atmospheric sounds that encompasses the listener. Crystallize adds more textures and tones but the result is the same, as the track gives an affect of drifting through the clouds. Lovely and calming. Music For Gloves

Music For Gloves is a charity project by a group of independent record labels from Spain to help fight against coronavirus. All money raised will be used to buy medical gloves and masks for hospital workers which becomes more telling as I have just read cornonavirus death toll in Spain has now overtaken that of China. Currently there are 12 labels involved but I have only managed to listen to the contribution from Meritorio Records which features unreleased tracks from The Maureens, Girlatones and Holy Tunics. EDIT: I have also enjoyed the EP contributed by Pretty Olivia Records especially the … Continue reading Music For Gloves

The Francine Odysseys – What If We Were Wrong

The debut EP from Los Angeles based The Francine Odysseys is a delightful twee/indiepop/bedroom pop/jangle pop/dream pop (delete or combine as appropriate) EP. Opener Hide Your Eyes is simply amazing and is the kind of song Labrador Records and other Swedish labels put out in their heyday, reminding me of the likes of The Charade. Silver Lake slows things down – is that some spaghetti western guitar I hear around the camp fire? Carry Me Home is the sort of catchy and melodic folky indiepop that The Hermit Crabs used to provide and the females vocals shine on this one … Continue reading The Francine Odysseys – What If We Were Wrong

Post-Punk Sunday

The new single from Cold Cave is a cover of Absolute Body Control‘s Waving Hands. It stays faithful to the original although sounding darker and denser. Get it from here whilst the original version is available here. Warsaw Pact have released an album of demos called, erm Demos (2016-2109). The release includes two previously unheard demos in the shape of Made by Design & Discshop Inquisition. Maybe it’s one for the fans who are familiar with the originals but given it’s available on a pay what you want basis it’s also a good introduction to the band. Midnight Cure always … Continue reading Post-Punk Sunday

Wake In June – Crush These Bars & More

It’s been a busy few days on Bandcamp for Wake In June who are currently in lockdown in their native Padua. First up is the new single Crush These Bars which jangles around the confused words. You can get this one from here. Next up is their contribution to the Z Tapes compilation Hope For European Bedrooms which is a fundraiser for, as the name suggests European based bedroom pop artists. The track is called Same Fear and I like the programming and the shimmering sounds on this one especially as the song reaches it’s conclusion. Hope For European Bedrooms … Continue reading Wake In June – Crush These Bars & More
