Tiny Fireflies – Nothing / 2040

I have had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Tiny Fireflies over the years. Sometimes they just deliver tracks that are way too twee and sugary sweet. You know where you have to put your head between your shoulders, shudder and wait for your teeth to fall out. Then on the other hand they deliver the perfect pop record. You know where you swoon and want to grab that precious vinyl and hold it snugly in your arms. Thankfully the double a sided Nothing / 2040 falls into the latter and it is possibly one of the finest, if … Continue reading Tiny Fireflies – Nothing / 2040

NAH… – Summer’s Failing

Summer’s Failing, by the wonderfully named NAH…, is the lead track taken from the EP of the same name. It’s the first release for this Dutch outfit and it’s all jangling guitars and boy/girl vocals at the ready. It’s not to difficult to think about flowery, sometimes twee, indiepop despite the snow falling once more in London Town. It’s a case of spring failing yet alone summer but this excellent track will get me thru it. Summer’s Failing is available to pre-order in digital and CD formats from the band. Something For The Weekend? – Three from WIAIWYA

This week’s pack of three focuses on three forthcoming release on London’s Where It’s At Is Where You Are label. Birdie – Bowling Green First up is Bowling Green which is taken from the new single from cult band Birdie who consist of Debsey Wykes (Dolly Mixture) and Paul Kelly (East Village). It’s a gentle, soothing affair perfectly weighted for an indiepop chill-out album (out now on K-Tel – okay I made that up) The 7″ was part of the labels Singles Club and has sold out. You can still get in digitally from here. Facebook Spearmint – The Music … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? – Three from WIAIWYA

Verbludes – Nightmares

More twee influenced indiepop from the Russian band Verbludes. Кошмары sounds quite jolly but once you translate the title (Nightmares) and the lyrics into English is not all smiles and handclaps as you may have been lead to believe! Regardless of all of that it’s a catchy and bouncy track none the less! It’s pretty much the same formula on Пустые слова (Blank Words) which also contains some excellent boy/girl vocals. The result? Two excellent indiepop tracks that you can get for nowt from here. VK.Com Continue reading Verbludes – Nightmares

Ending 2017 #5

No Vacation – Intermission Dreamy, laid-back music from Californian’s No Vacation. It’s easy to drift off and daydream to these tracks especially on opener Yam Yam which sets the tone for the EP. If indiepop clubs had chill out rooms this could well be the soundtrack. Available on vinyl, cassette and digital formats from here. Facebook Poppel – Hit It Staying with the dreamy vibe Hit It is the debut album from Belgian jangle poppers Poppel. These songs are short, sweet and very jangly with only one passing the 3 minute mark – by a second! Pleasure is my pick … Continue reading Ending 2017 #5

Blow City – A Records I Like Playlist (November #1)

Aside from some of the tracks I have written about recently there is some excellent music here – why would I include anything but! If you only flirt with this list make sure you check out the tracks from Sound and Fury, Matriakatet, Glass Arcades, Savak, Soda Fountain Rag and the beautiful Bloodshade by Flower Crown. If you have missed any previous playlists you can find them here. Continue reading Blow City – A Records I Like Playlist (November #1)

Briya – Lado A/Lado B

No Halloween nonsense from me today. Instead here are the first two releases (or both sides of just one?) from Argentinian band Britya. Regardless whether it’s just the one release or two all the tracks here encompass many of the ingredients that make up indiepop with twee, dream pop, noise pop and fuzzy guitar pop alongside healthy does of punk and riot grrrl. It’s on the latter, particularly Tiempo, that they shine to these ears and it’s further evidenced on the shouty Todo Me Enamora. It’s all good fun and Briya provide one of the best debut releases I have … Continue reading Briya – Lado A/Lado B

Daze In The Sun – A Records I Like Playlist (October #3)

A third and final playlist for October which should see you through the week and into November. There is so much good stuff out there now I could not possibly write about them all so these playlists are great as they encapsulate what I found on bandcamp. Hopefully there will be something you like too. Enjoy! Continue reading Daze In The Sun – A Records I Like Playlist (October #3)
