Verano Del 83 – Tus Sueños Siempre Serán Los Míos

The new EP from the Peruvian band Verano Del 83 should certainly be a must have on any twee pop fan’s shopping list. Translated as Your Dreams Will Always Be Mine it features four dreamy indie pop songs which, despite me not understanding a word, sound remarkably happy and cheerful. The standout track for me is Mi Camino Mágico which sounds like a cover of a children’s TV programme theme, turned into an indiepop classic. Parsnip – Adding Up

Parsnip will be releasing a new four track EP in May. Titled Adding Up it features four tracks and the band have made the title track available for streaming. It’s a lovely indiepop tune that still draws from 1960s girl bands for influences although it’s not so prominent here as on previous efforts. Dolly Mixture was another band that sprung to mind whilst I was listening to the track. In short it’s as catchy as ever. Various Artists – Shelter (Sunday Records)

Sunday Records have released a free compilation called Shelter. The label states that it’s “a special treat for our fans during the coronavirus isolation.” The album features acts from their roster both past and present including Sugar World and their blissful We Fell In Love track, Fawns of Love, Day & Dream and The Memory Fades. There are blasts from the past too in the shape of The Pristines, The Cinematics and Tokidoki. The debut album from South East London based indiepop band The Hannah Barberas manages not only to bring a smile to one’s face in these testing times but to get one thinking hard too. Some of the tracks are familiar friends but now sound even more settled in their new home! The Francine Odysseys – What If We Were Wrong

The debut EP from Los Angeles based The Francine Odysseys is a delightful twee/indiepop/bedroom pop/jangle pop/dream pop (delete or combine as appropriate) EP. Opener Hide Your Eyes is simply amazing and is the kind of song Labrador Records and other Swedish labels put out in their heyday, reminding me of the likes of The Charade. Silver Lake slows things down – is that some spaghetti western guitar I hear around the camp fire?
