Something For The Weekend? – Three Post-Punk/Synth Pop Acts

This weeks pack of three features three recent post-punk releases that are inspired by synth-pop. Handful of Snowdrops – The Four Winds Canadian post-punk veterans Handful of Snowdrops return with their first new material since 2018’s excellent Noir album. The Four Winds errs on the side of poppier side of synth-pop whilst Tail Sails is a moody, atmospheric instrumental track. However it’s the scattered edit of the title track that stands out taking the original version to a higher level or should that be dancefloor? Red Sleeping Beauty – New York City Girls

Red Sleeping Beauty have had a great 2019 what with the Stockholm album and all the singles & mixes taken from it. For their final (I presume!) release of 2019 they lift yet another track from said album in the shape of a new and edited version of New York City Girls. The songs are energetic and lively despite being resplendent with words sung in a dour vocal style. However I think that adds to the charm as demonstrated on Дела which is my pick of the tracks on offer. EDIT – I think I located the … Continue reading Холодный звонок – Генерал

Post-Punk Tuesday

Rounding up some more post-punk inspired tunes. Beryllium – Beryllium Not sure if these are unfinished tracks, demos or works in progress but on this debut release there are four very short wave synth-pop/coldwave inspired post-punk tracks. The synths hook you in and the vocals give the songs (excerpts?) an extra dimension but they are oh so short. I really hope there is more to come from this act as this EP bodes well for the future. Figure Section – Spectre Belgium has a long association with all things coldwave/post-punk and Brussels based Figure Section is a new addition to … Continue reading Post-Punk Tuesday
