Krimewatch – Krimewatch

These demos originally surfaced last year but now have been re-issued in light of the band’s current European tour. They are a healthy dose of hardcore punk tunes from New York City complete with shouty vocals in both Japanese and English. The songs are short, loud, fast & frantic – what’s not to like? It’s out digitally on Static Shock Records and I think a 7″ will be available from the label as well as US label Lockin’ Out Records. Continue reading Krimewatch – Krimewatch

Something For The Weekend? Three from La Vida Es Un Mus Discos

Get ready to pogo this weekend…. Hackney based punk label La Vida Es Un Mus Discos were one of my discoveries of last year and I picked up a few releases from them. They source punk from all over the globe and these three releases will soon be added to last years additions. Rata Negra – Oído Absoluto Debut album from Spanish punk band Rata Negra. No idea what they are singing about but the songs sound great and verge on the poppier side of punk. Available digitally from either the label and band. I think there will be a … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three from La Vida Es Un Mus Discos

Records I Like Top 10 2016

Blimey. This year’s list was hard to compile given that I restrict myself to just 10 choices (self-inflicted stupidity!). I have been listening to plenty of punk, coldwave, indie-pop, riot grrrl, queercore, garage and post-punk but I think this selection is a fair reflection of my listening habits these past 12 months. Tracks missing the cut include the likes of Underworld, Joanna Gruesome, The Radio Dept., The Legends, Earth Girls,The Liminanas, Red Sleeping Beauty, Massive Attack, Jessica & The Fletchers, Vital Idles, Useless Youth, E’spaniel, Nice Try, Hate Week, Primetime, Tape Waves, The Wolfhounds, Merchandise, Slam, Blind Delon, Lad’s Mags, … Continue reading Records I Like Top 10 2016

Finishing Off….. 2016

After scrolling through my bookmarks here are some releases that deserved posts of their own but a busier solstice than usual has prevented that so please divert your ears into the direction of the following: Swimming Tapes – Set The Fire / Souvenirs Excellent debut 7″ from this London based alternative pop band. Facebook Son Bou – Cinta Indiepop from Barcelona. Out now on cassette from Snap! Clap! Facebook Kamikaze Girls – SAD Kamikaze Girls could be described as an angrier and noisier version of Curve. Stitches is a must hear. Facebook Fascinations Grand Chorus – Actor/Actress More dreamy 1960’s … Continue reading Finishing Off….. 2016

Something For The Weekend – Three (Free?) Sampler Pack

Three label samplers for you today all of which are available for free – well on a pay what you want basis. That should keep you busy over the weekend. Oddbox Records feature a lot on this site simply because they consistently put out quality releases on a regular basis. The originally named 2016 rounds up their output this year and there are choice cuts here from The Wolfhounds, The Manhattan Love Suicides, The Bellamys, City Yelps and plenty more. Facebook I also like a lot of the music that Emotional Response releases but for some reason, I have not … Continue reading Something For The Weekend – Three (Free?) Sampler Pack

The Tuts – 1982

A fantastic punk-pop single from West London’s The Tuts. The song is a stinging rebuke for a former manager who it seems wronged the wrong band! 1982 , like most of the band’s output, is inherently catchy. 1982 is taken from the band’s recently released debut long player Update Your Brain which you can pre-order from here. September Round Up Time!

I have been a bit slack on posting these past couple of weeks but I have some good excuses for that! Firstly I have set up a new record label with my Sleeping Today Promotions collaborator. I have also been helping promote the next Culture Bunker night which takes place on October 22nd and it will also be part of the #keepingitpeel events for 2016. And on to getting back on track and the music that has been grabbing me of late. Indiepop supergroup (?) Tangible Excitement! will  be releasing a new 7″ single shortly on Freakscene (UK & Europe) … Continue reading September Round Up Time!

TV Crime – Hooligans

This one from Nottingham’s TV Crime has been on repeat for a couple of weeks now. Hooligans is one hell a stomper of a tune that has it’s roots deep down in punk, pub rock and power pop alongside it’s terrace chants. If it doesn’t make you pogo, mosh or whatever else you do then there really is no hope. Most excellent. Hooligans is out now on 7″ vinyl or digitally via Static Shock Records. Facebook Continue reading TV Crime – Hooligans

Skux – The Two Sides of She

It’s a tale of two halves on the debut release from Kiwi/US outfit Skux. Opener, and possibly one of the tracks of the year so far, On Her Way is a an addictive, pleasing punk pop song that worms it’s way into your brain such is it’s catchiness. Flip side More Than 10 Things, based on the 10 Things I Hate About You film, doesn’t grab your attention in the same way and they could have done with the guitars being turned up whilst the singer is venting her spleen. A grower I suspect. That’s if I ever stop playing … Continue reading Skux – The Two Sides of She

Efialtis – Κολοσσιαίο Γυναικείο Κεφάλι 7″

Efialtis are a London based Greek/Cypriot band who play a pulsating rhythmic and militant brand of punk. They sing in Greek and I really do hope they are sticking two fingers up to whoever is peeing them off. Regardless of the language the songs on this EP are simply fantastic with the anthem like Malaria being the standout track for me. Crank it right up… It’s out now on 7″ via La Vida Es Un Mus Discos or buy it digitally from the label’s bandcamp page. Continue reading Efialtis – Κολοσσιαίο Γυναικείο Κεφάλι 7″
