Efialtis – Κολοσσιαίο Γυναικείο Κεφάλι 7″

Efialtis are a London based Greek/Cypriot band who play a pulsating rhythmic and militant brand of punk. They sing in Greek and I really do hope they are sticking two fingers up to whoever is peeing them off. Regardless of the language the songs on this EP are simply fantastic with the anthem like Malaria being the standout track for me. The band start their Euro Tour in a few days time and return to launch the single at London’s Forge on 13th February. An early Valentines day treat if there ever was one! Emotional Response have certainly had a busy end of year. They have now released a Christmas Compilation which features contributions from label owners Stewart & Jen under a variety of guises as well as contributions from their mates. It’s a mix of the usual seasonal nonsense that these compilations generally bring but it has a large fun element too especially on the contributions from Summer Cats, Department Engineering Help Desk and Enemy Anemone. Enemy Anemone / Cougar Vox- Split Single

Another day and another great release on Emotional Response courtesy of this fine split single. Enemy Anemone is Jen Turrell (Boyracer) who delivers three slabs of post punk inspired pop songs with the longest running in a 1m28s. Making slightly longer tunes is Australian band Cougar Vox who deliver the EP’s finest moment on the pop punk joy that is Cragieburn, a moment that should inspire you to jump up and down such is it’s infectiousness. Hard Left – We Are Hard Left

Given the depressing recent election result here in the UK, where we need to get back to a socialist labour party and not one that panders to the middle classes, petty nationalism and the Murdoch press, the timing of this album could not be more apt. That Petrol Emotion once sang “educate, antagonise, organise” and hopefully this album can be part of that rallying cry. I don’t do reviews anymore but if I did they would be like this.
