Anajunno – Fuegoinvierno

It’s turning into an Argentinian themed weekend! Anajunno hail from Santa Fe, Argentina and Fuegoinvierno, which translates as Winterfire, is the follow-up to 2017s self titled debut. Anajunno’s music is primarily dreampop, but they also delve into other spheres. For example Julia Knows flirts with psychedelic pop whilst the instrumental Generador de pruebas is an excellent drone inspired track which reminds me of Eat Lights Become Lights. Another instrumental track Video 2000 is relaxing in a space rock sort of way. It’s the dreampop I prefer and the “poppier” the better. Both Burn The House and Salud temporal are cases … Continue reading Anajunno – Fuegoinvierno

Chasms – Shadow (Public Memory Thundershower Dub)

The opening track from the recent The Mirage album gets an even “dubbier makeover”. There were plenty of parts in the original that were ripe for remixing and the Public Memory Thundershower Dub brings those elements right out of their shell with the vocals sounding more pronounced alongside the enhanced, heavier percussion. Nicely done! The original version: Facebook Continue reading Chasms – Shadow (Public Memory Thundershower Dub)

Newscaster – Rumours

Plenty of weird and wonderful sounds inhabit the two tracks that can be found on this experimental sounding release. There is art-pop, post-punk, dub, psychedelia and even a bit of drone/krautrock. The music invokes memories of the likes of Can, Talking Heads, Scritti Politti and XTC. If that is the effect Newscaster are after then they are spot on. Interesting to say the least. I like. Alles Club – Décollage

Quite a journey this one which crosses the borders of shoegaze, post rock and dream pop whilst on it’s travels. The instrumental title track opens the proceedings with post rock guitars merged with voices recorded from the TV or radio. It blends into another eight minute plus track in the shape of Quanto Tempo which has a poppier sound spruced with some trumpets. Despite not sounding like it, it is effective and works amazingly well! Sadly our ride comes off the rails with the well meaning but ultimately unsatisfying Libélula. It’s a slight break with 1990’s alt-rock sounding effort on … Continue reading Alles Club – Décollage

Tiny Magnetic Pets – Radio On

Radio On, which features ex Kraftwerk member Wolfgang Flür, originally appeared on last year’s Deluxe/Debris album and now has been released featuring a number of remixes to support the Dublin based band’s continued touring in support of OMD. The original version is very poppy and whilst their are some nice bits it’s not a keeper for me. However it’s on the remixes where things get interesting with all the remixers stripping out the radio friendly vocals. Happy Robots stalwart Alice Hubble produces a mellotron based remix that blissfully wanders whilst London based droners The Leaf Library produce a contemplative response … Continue reading Tiny Magnetic Pets – Radio On

Haiku Salut – The More And Moreness

I cannot say Haiku Salut have ever rocked my world despite their impressive lamp show. The More And Moreness was a recent single and one I have recently discovered. And it’s ace, sounding like a cross between the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and New Order 1982/83. And if that isn’t enough there is also a rather spiffing remix by long term collaborator Thomas Ragsdale (Winter Son/Ghosting Season) which can be found on the Occupy single the band released earlier this year. The More And Moreness is taken from the album There Is No Elsewhere. I may have to dig deeper! Facebook Continue reading Haiku Salut – The More And Moreness

August Round Up #2

It’s been a bit quiet around here recently so let’s rectity that with a few tunes. Citrus Clouds – Golden Sun Reverb heavy indie/dream pop from Arizona and follow up to last years excellent Ultrasound LP. Facebook Deaf – Shards I really enjoyed Deaf’s Truancy single and Shards carries on in pretty much the same vein. It’s an enjoyable track with a strong retro feel yet sounds like something fresh. Another strong vocal performance from Luke Kavanagh whose voice has has a ring of Billy Mackenzie to it. Facebook СТОПКРАН & Please Tokyo – Split Interesting split cassette from two … Continue reading August Round Up #2

Compilation Week – Freakscene London 2014/2016

There are plenty of decent compilations to be had on Bandcamp at present and this week I will be rounding a few of them up. Freakscene London 2014/2016 compiles that label’s output for the years – well you guessed it – collated from their vinyl and flexi releases. There are tracks from the likes of Fever Dream, Tangible Excitement, The Sunny Street, The Yummy Four and many more. My personal highlight is Boyracer covering The Rosehips I Shouldn’t Have To Say. Available digitally although some of the original flexis and seven inches may still be available. Yours for a fiver … Continue reading Compilation Week – Freakscene London 2014/2016
