The Pinch Punch Sampler

Blimey. September and Autumn already! Time flies when you are having fun eh? Here are some tunes to start the month with a bang. Or a foot tap or two!

Here is the Playlist:

or listen on YouTube.

April June – Biking to Your House

A new and delightful single from Spanish act April June. It’s all dreamy, twisty and well worth the year long wait! Biking to Your House is out now via Spirit Goth Records.

Bleach Lab – Obviously

A tale of unrequited love, remorse and dwelling about things you cannot change. Dream pop? More like gloom pop but very good with it. Cue more Sundays, or Cranberries comparisons.

Paradise Blossom – Disco Girl

One of the highlights, and there are a few, which can be found on the band’s Sunset Getaway album. Disco Girl is jangle pop with some late 50’s and early 60s vibes. Sunset Getaway album is out now on BIRTHDIY.

Tchotchke – Don’t Hang Up On Me

More 1960s influences can be found on Tchotchke’s self titled debut album. Very Lucky Soul/Pipettes like which is a thumbs up in my book!

Pale Blue Eyes – Little Gem

A fluid sounding song that can be found on the bands imminent Souvenirs long player. Whilst the band’s previous German influenced sound is not so apparent it still lingers and quite effectively towards the end. The vocals are great too. Souvenirs is out tomorrow via Full Time Hobby.

Death Of Heather – Head In The Sand

More Ride influenced shoegaze from the Bangkok based band. It’s obviously a popular sound in their home town. An easy comparison perhaps but if you peddle that vintage shoegazing sound there are only one or two ways you are going to sound. I appreciate that whilst I have heard it all before others may have not and because of that it comes recommended.

Roller Derby – Only You

Catchy feel good retro (what isn’t these days?) pop music thanks to the vocals and chorus from Hamburg. Oh and those melodies too.

Dayaway – Summer’s End

An appropriate song title for this time of year as the Autumn kicks in. This lovely track is taken from the band’s self-titled debut EP and would be perfect for listening by an open fire* on the beach as the sun is setting. Get that EP from here.

Forever Honey – Could I Come Here Alone

Could I Come Here Alone is the title track, and for me the standout, of the Brooklyn based Forever Honey’s debut EP. Indiepop with folkish undertones whilst the vocals remind me of Faith Over Reason’s Moira Lambert. I am getting old – again! Is that a ukulele, banjo or something similar I hear towards the end? My fuzzy pop self would be grinding his teeth whilst listening to this song about a dissolving relationship. Could I Come Here Alone is out now.

Surf Ghost – Skate Ghost

My fuzzy pop one would like this one! A noisy, lo-fi blast with surf pop influences. Surf Ghost is one Joe Bastian and the track is taken from the self-titled debut EP.
