American post-punk outfit The Wake are set to release their first album in twenty-five years on October 30th 2020. Titled Perfumes and Fripperies it features ten tracks and will be released via Blaylox Records on CD and digital formats.
The album is preceded with the track Hammer Hall which sounds like it was recorded over three decades ago thanks to its retro goth/post-punk sound. You would be forgiven if you thought the band came from England’s North rather than Columbus, Ohio given their sound especially when it comes to the vocals. Take Sisters of Mercy as a starting point and go from there. Staying with that thought Red Lorry Yellow Lorry guitarist Dave Wolfenden makes an appearance on the album playing the guitar on Everything.
Whilst I dig their two previous albums out for a spin you can pre-order Perfumes and Fripperies (digitally for the moment) from here.
