The Saturday Mix

Asimov – Obelisco

Guatemalan shoegazers Asimov are back with their first new song since last years debut album Todo Lo Que Buscamos Es Desaparecer. And what a track they return with! It is a stunning example of ethereal shoegaze and is simply lovely stuff.

Pelopincho – Los Dinosaurios

I must admit I thought Argentinian band Pelopincho was all but dead because some of their members recently surfaced in Angvstia Pop. Thankfully that does not seem to be the case as new track Los Dinosaurios testifies. It’s synth-driven twee/indiepop and, if I have translated the lyrics right, the song is about the rejection of social media and all that it entails. It’s out now via Remedio Casero Discos.

Lisa Bouvier – Every Year Until We Die

The Flatmates lead vocalist Lisa Bouvier has a new solo single coming out later this year on Local Underground. The song is actually a few years old now and is about the indietracks festival. However, it gets a fresh release because of the cancellation of this year’s festival due to you know what and being unable to catch up with friends, new and old. I haven’t been to indie tracks for a few years now but recognise quite a few people from the video!

Every Year Until We Die will be backed by You’ll Be On Your Own being available in 7″ vinyl and digital formats. You can pre-order it from Local Underground here.

Adiós Cometa – Franco

Adiós Cometa hail from San José, Costa Rica. They comprise of Jonathan Villalobos (vocals/guitar) Pablo Matamoros (drums), Emanuel Mora (guitar) and Mark Murillo (Bass). Franco looks to be their debut single and at first that song titled had me worried. Thankfully it’s not about Spanish dictators and, again I am trusting google translate on this, seems to be about a couple possibly coming together once more. Musically? It’s that shimmering dreampop/shoegaze sound I love so well! I like the worn sleeve artwork too.

Airhockey – Walkthroughby

Miami based shoegazers Airhockey have recently released their new EP Walkthroughby. It features six tracks including the excellent single Try which opens proceedings. Whilst I am still not taken with Not Enough some of the other songs here are divine including Just Not Fair, Sungazing and the lengthly but overtly catchy with it, Step Up.

Walkthroughby is available on cassette and digital formats direct from the band.

Bathe Alone – Go Away

The latest single from Bathe Alone features some lovely synth-based sounds woven through its dreampop textures given the song an additional focus point. Go Away is the sixth (!) single to be taken from the forthcoming album Last Looks which is due for release at some point later this year. The beautiful artwork may give some clues to the mood of the song.
