Something For The Weekend? A New Mix!

A mix featuring 12 excellent tracks that have yet to be featured on the site. Here is the Mixcloud blurb: This latest Records I Like Mix covers a lot of ground over the course of its 33 minutes. From the opening gentle twee and indiepop sounds of Girl Ray and Those Unfortunates to the intense shoegaze of Kindling and Devilish Dear. How about some epic sounding indie pop from Agent Bla, Holy Now and the Death Of Pop going up alongside tracks from Brunch Club, When Nalda Became Punk, Supermilk, Kitty Kat Club and Early Riser. It’s all here. Enjoy! … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? A New Mix!

The Jasmine Minks – Ten Thousand Tears

The Jasmine Minks are a band that certainly needs no introduction to people of a certain age. Not only were they the first signing to Creation Records they have also been releasing high quality indiepop since 1984 including this, their latest single. Ten Thousand Tears is a finely crafted song that gets you thinking thanks to it’s melancholic vocals and wistful guitars. It’s officially released on the 8th April but orders for the 7″ can be placed here. All monies raised from the single will be donated to fighting Motor Neurone Disease. Something For The Weekend? Three Influenced By Joy Division……

This week’s pack of three encompasses three artists who have given themselves a tag as Joy Division on Bandcamp. Mementut – Into the shadow of God Very Gothic sounding especially the trademark vocal style and any club that wants to recreate the goth scene of 1980’s northern England could well give it a spin. It gets a bit samey for these ears although on Valyrian and Asylum there are hints at better things to come. Triebgesteuert Antriebslos – Music Is For Losers The post-punk project of a lo-fi hip-hop artist. There are some interesting ideas here and some of the … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Atta Girl -Betty’s Begonia

Betty’s Begonia is the first I have heard from Atta Girl. It’s a great EP where shouty pop, garage, riot grrrl and twee/indiepop collide. The vocals are unique and distinctive to say the least whilst the music supplements them to great effect. I guess they will not be everyone’s cup of tea but thankfully they are mine. And given the origins of their name, there is also an excellent cover of Heavenly’s P.U.N.K Girl here too. It’s out now on cassette via Trrrash Records or as a pay what you want download. Next Time Passions – Win The Universe

Greek indiepop veterans Next Time Passions release a new and very limited EP next month via Melotron Recordings. Titled Another Wish it features four tracks with only the lead track Win The Universe being available for preview at this time. But what a track to preview as it is an extremely catchy jangle pop track that harks back to the golden (well not always) days of C86 and Sarah Records. The very limited art package has already gone but 35 limited CD’s remain. Get it from here. Facebook Continue reading Next Time Passions – Win The Universe

Catching Up. Again!

It’s been a busy time at work and as you can tell by the lack of posts I have not had much chance to listen to much new stuff. Preparing for the Culture Bunker’s 5th Anniversary night hasn’t helped either but that’s one chore I am happy to have. Enough of me moaning. Here are some of the tracks I have been listening too. No words from me either! Rocketship/Pia Fraus – Outer Otherness/Cloudy Eyes Split 7″ single which you can get from here. And just as I write this post Rocketship, who offered parts of their track for remixing, … Continue reading Catching Up. Again!

The Darling Buds – Complicated

Complicated is taken from the new EP by The Darling Buds which is also their first recorded output for over twenty five years. Titled Evergreen it features four tracks and is due for release in mid-April on 10″ vinyl or cassette. Complicated is more Crawdaddy or Erotica rather than Pop Said but amongst the riffs there are some pop sensibilities. It will be interesting to hear how the rest of the EP pans out. The limited edition green vinyl has sold out already but it’s still available in black. You can pre-order from here. Homepage Continue reading The Darling Buds – Complicated

Something For The Weekend? Three revisited

This week’s threesome covers new releases from bands I have mentioned before. Verbludes – долги Indiepop from Russia. Apparently it’s about being in debt. I think my ears are! The Death Of Pop – Like Always This is the first we have heard from The Death Pop for almost a year. It’s a finely polished tune encompassing their jangling guitar sound. It’s also their best track for some time. Facebook Peach Club – Mission Impossible Another assault on the senses from Norwich based riot grrrls Peach Club. Mission Impossible is an honest and memorable blast at sexism and double standards … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three revisited
