Is Northern Lights Dreams of Empire’s poppiest moment yet? I certainly think so as they pick up the pace as the song twists and whirls. The vocals and music are both catchy and addictive which is all this fella, and … Continue reading Dreams Of Empire – Northern Lights
Untitled is a split recording between two connected Indonesian bands (shared members?) The Sweetest Touch and The Wellington and both contribute two tracks each. The Sweetest Touch continue their trip down There And Back Again Lane haunted by the ghosts of Sarah Records past. A lazy comparison some might say but it’s still valid as both Answer and Bitter testify. Whilst it may well be a new sound to some I am hoping the 100% adoration with the said label will stop at some point and the band will develop their own sound. That said these are strong tracks especially … Continue reading The Sweetest Touch/The Wellington – Untitled
Heathers is the second single to be taken from Terry vs. Tori forthcoming debut album. Like the previous single Braille it reminds me of that now classic Swedish indiepop sound (think Acid House Kings et al.) as the female vocals and jangling guitars come together in perfect harmony. Simply marvellous. Facebook Continue reading Terry vs. Tori – Heathers
Swedish band Dream Lake’s music certainly puts the dream back into dream pop. Someday, which is out now digitally via Imperiet Recordings, is laid back cloud gazing music that you can drift off too. This is due in no small part down to the lovely vocals of Isabella Svärdstam and if ethereal female vocals is your thing then you are certainly in luck here. The music isn’t bad either as guitars and synths provide the perfect companions to that voice. Facebook Continue reading Dream Lake – Someday
Baby is the first track to be taken from the forthcoming album What You At by Portsmouth based Personal Best. It’s a thriving punk-pop/powerpop track about a failing relationship which contains some damn fine guitar riffs you can jump around too. What You At is out in June. You can pre-order the digital version from the band. Facebook Continue reading Personal Best – Baby
Dalliance sees the return of Processions who we have not heard from since 2017s Slow Decay EP. It’s a great return too. Describing their music as “post-punk music you can dance to” Dalliance is a swirling mix of guitars and percussion that mixes coldwave and dreampop together resulting a song with steely determination. Facebook Continue reading Processions – Dalliance
This weeks pack of three looks (hears) at three releases that tagged themselves as punk derivatives. This Girl Will Self-Destruct – This Band Will Self-Destruct This Band Will Self-Destruct is the debut release from this new impressively named band who … Continue reading Something For The Weekend – Three Punk Derivatives
The Blue Dress is the solo project of Jesus Sandoval who he is not kidding when he states his influences are Sarah Records, Talulah Gosh and The Field Mice! The Perfect Moment sounds like a track given away on a flexi-disc via fanzines of yesteryear. Unlike those aforementioned pieces of plastic this track doesn’t sound warped or crackled although it captures the retro sound from the 1980s perfectly! The Perfect Moment is released as a digital single only (no flexi-disc!) and can be purchased via Emma’s House Records. Facebook Continue reading The Blue Dress – The Perfect Moment
A mix covering a number of varieties of synth pop including 80s retro sounding synthpop, post-punk and coldwave, the darker side of synth pop and pure unadulterated pop music! Enjoy. Full Tracklisting: Xeno & Oaklander – The Light, The Whisper … Continue reading Never Dream – A Synth Pop Mix
The last time I mentioned The Colleagues was way back in 2013. I am not sure if they have done anything since then but their soundcloud page indicates not. Anyway they are back with this slow paced jangling indiepop track which sounds remarkably similar to not only their material from six years ago but also like bands such as Po!, Fat Tulips and Strawberry Story which given their influences should come as no surprise. Hardly original but very pleasant and if female fronted indiepop is your thing this track should be right up there towards the top of your list. … Continue reading The Colleagues – Arkadia
