The Gory Alices – Swimsuit Aliens

The Gory Alices describes themselves as “a horror punk and surf rock band”. Despite only forming earlier this year Swimsuit Aliens is their second EP and leads on from their debut, the 21st Century Cosmic Freak Show EP. Their music is, and you will not be surprised given their description, is a mix of rock ‘n’ roll, garage, punk inspired riffs and comic humour. The strongest instrument though is the voice of Gory Alice herself whose strong vocals bring the stories being told in the songs to life and you can let your imagination run riot as she belts the … Continue reading The Gory Alices – Swimsuit Aliens

Well Whale – Pipe Dream

Indonesian band Well Whale return with a new single, following up their debut single She’s A Punk. To be honest the progress between the two singles is astounding. Reminding me of acts on Creation Records the band present a more developed sound with some excellent jangling guitars whilst the vocals sound fuller, being more rounded. And plenty of la, la, la, la’s too…. A cracking track regardless of how you look (hear?) it! Instagram Continue reading Well Whale – Pipe Dream

Salt Lake Alley – But You Do, You Do

Swedish band Salt Lake Valley who are comprised of Gustav Tranback (Paper Hearts, Dismal Plight) and Mikael Carlsson (The Honeydrips, Dorotea) will be following up last years Deals at the Crossroads EP (Cloudberry Records) with their debut album The Way It Feels. But You Do, You Do is the first single to be taken from the album and it’s a frantic and catchy indiepop song that bodes well for the rest of the album. Give it a whirl… Continue reading Salt Lake Alley – But You Do, You Do

Full Power Happy Hour – The Fun EP

The wonderfully named Full Power Happy Hour are a new band comprised of veterans of the Brisbane music scene. After forming last year The Fun EP is the band’s debut release. Opening with the folky Complicit, which reminds me of the music Scotland’s Hermit Crabs used to make, the EP moves onto a more jangling direction. The folk influences can still heard throughout the remainder of the EP thanks to the melody and vocals. Fun sounds just like it’s title suggests whilst the final track Endless Summer, which is my pick of the bunch, is about Brisbane’s humid weather which … Continue reading Full Power Happy Hour – The Fun EP

Sometimes Too…

Fascinations Grand Chorus – Can’t Let Go Fascinations Grand Chorus release a new album at the end of the month in the shape of the wonderfully named Presentations of Electrical Confectionery. The opening track Can’t Let Go has just been released as a taster. It’s another fine example of 1960s girl band inspired indiepop the band produces so well, setting the tone of hopefully what is to follow. Pre order Presentations of Electrical Confectionery from here. Facebook House Deposit – Sometimes, Somehow Australians New Deposit release their debut album Reward For Effort on October 25th 2019.
