I am writing this one later than expected and as I listen, being a nice varied mix on this blustery Sunday Night. Australian indiepop legends Even As We Speak will be releasing a new album on Shelflife Records and Discos De Kirlian in June. Forgiving is the first single to be lifted from said album and it is, as you would expect from the band, to be a lovely twee/c86 inspired slab of pop music. Red Sleeping Beauty with Cristina Quesada – Mi Amor

Red Sleeping Beauty have reworked their 2016 single Mi Amor with Spanish pop singer Cristina Quesada on vocals. It’s not the first collaboration between the two having previously worked on last summer’s Chicas De Madrid single. On this version the synths sound lower and deeper whilst Quesada’s amazing varied vocal style, which range from the childlike to the spoken, give the song additional dimensions when comparing against the original. It’s backed with a Fuerteventura Version and is available digitally from the Red Sleeping Beauty bandcamp page. Five Card Shuffle

A round up of sorts! Jetstream Pony have recently released a new track in the shape of Yellow Pills. Not sure the of the history of this one aside that it was recorded last Autumn but it’s a fine fuzzy pop song none the less. Crank it up. London label Damnably are releasing a compilation of Grrrl Gang’s work to date on vinyl and the solid lilac edition looks very nice indeed. Dummy – Angel’s Gear

Dummy hail from Los Angeles and Angel’s Gear is their first track. And it’s not a bad one to start with as it blends 1960’s psychedelia and pop. The vintage moog sound that runs throughout the song also gives it a Krautrock “feel” making not only one to nod your head too but also one for the dance-floor. Given the track listing on the artwork it’s safe to say a fully fledged EP will be coming along soon and based on Angel’s Gear I cannot wait to listen to some more. Various Artists – F.A.R. Out

Having been involved in putting out a number of releases over the past decade I know how stressful getting the finished article can be. That’s why I sympathise with Estella at Fadeawayradiate Records when she writes that, whilst putting the label’s third compilation together, “was like extracting a tooth from a whale”! Mind you sending the whale to the marine dentist was worthy sacrifice as this is a very good compilation indeed. The theme of the compilation, titled F.A.R. Pop At Summer – Chamomile Rhymes

Pop at Summer hail from Bandung, Indonesia and are another band who continue that city & country’s obsession with indiepop. Unlike some of their peers the band do not replicate Sarah Records note for note and instead produce a mature indie pop sound centered around the voice of their female singer (Givani?). Imagine Strawberry Story fronted by Tracey Thorn and that may give you some clues. The band also cite Swedish pop as an influence but I also hear bits of swing and classical guitar in the mix too.
