Compilation Week – I Won’t Have To Think About You: Compiled by Bayu and Moopie

I have no idea who Bayu and Moopie are but I doth my cap to them as they have compiled a rather delicious album showcasing long lost Australian indie-pop tracks from 1982 to date. When it comes to this sort of this music it’s the female fronted bands who grab me most and this album is full of them. I have heard of most of the bands here (Even As We Speak, Pearly Gatecrashers, The Cannanes etc.) but some are new to me such as post-punk act Maestros and Dipsos who recorded between 1980/1982. Their contribution Dot is proof to … Continue reading Compilation Week – I Won’t Have To Think About You: Compiled by Bayu and Moopie

Out of Place – A Records I Like Playlist (November #2)

As per usual click on the image to start the playlist. Playmoss has made some changes so if the playlists do not work for you please leave a comment. Compilation Week – Russian Tour 2

This compilation, compiled by Belka Records who are based in Moscow and Paris, features Russian speaking bands from Russia and The Ukraine. Skip pass the dreadful first track and persevere. Only Verbludes were known to me before but after listening to this a few more will be too especially the glorious post-punk sounds of Gruppa Hmuriy and Fleece Flower as well as the indiepop of Park 17. As with all compilations what one person likes another will not so delve in and I am sure there will be something that grabs your attention before long. Available on cassette or digital … Continue reading Compilation Week – Russian Tour 2

Compilation Week – Fall 2017

Technically it’s still Autumn so I think I can get away with this one! Fall 2017 is the latest compilation from Slovakian tape label Z Tapes. I am not going to kid you and aside from Soft Pastels I have not heard of any of the other 26 bands featured. However there is some interesting stuff here and this release serves as a great introduction to the label. Stand out tracks include efforts from the likes of Leor Miller, Candy and Memoryville and the compilation covers bedroom pop, DIY, indiepop and lo-fi pop mixtape. Available on cassette from here or … Continue reading Compilation Week – Fall 2017

Compilation Week – Freakscene London 2014/2016

There are plenty of decent compilations to be had on Bandcamp at present and this week I will be rounding a few of them up. Freakscene London 2014/2016 compiles that label’s output for the years – well you guessed it – collated from their vinyl and flexi releases. There are tracks from the likes of Fever Dream, Tangible Excitement, The Sunny Street, The Yummy Four and many more. My personal highlight is Boyracer covering The Rosehips I Shouldn’t Have To Say. Available digitally although some of the original flexis and seven inches may still be available. Yours for a fiver … Continue reading Compilation Week – Freakscene London 2014/2016

Something For The Weekend? Three from Down Under

This weeks pack of three features three artists from Australia. Fragile Animals – Light That Fades EP Melodic alternative/indie rock from Brisbane. Their music is further enhanced by the voice of Victoria Jenkins, who also plays bass, that gives them an edge over other bands in the genre.  The title track and Home are the EP standouts. They do fall flat on their faces on the mishmash that is Smaller Circles but four decent tunes out of five ain’t bad. Available on CD or digital formats – get it from here. Facebook Turtle Bay Television – Rest Well In Your Shell Rest Well … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Three from Down Under

Sound and Fury – Honey Knows

Chinese band Sound and Fury’s name certainly imparts into their music. This is raw sounding indiepop at it’s finest and the drums give the song an air of a live recording. The boy/girl vocals are great as well. It certainly bodes well for the forthcoming album Sprout which is due out later this month via Boring Productions. You can get Honey Knows from the band or the label on a pay what you want basis. Facebook Continue reading Sound and Fury – Honey Knows

Say Sue Me/Otoboke – Beaver Split 7″

I mentioned Say Sue Me’s wonderful track Good For Some Reason last month and at that point it was only available digitally. It’s now surfaced on a split 7″ release via Damnably and on the flip side is the very shouty Sil Vous Plait from Japanese punk poppers Otoboke Beaver which might catch you unaware if you have the headphones on. My ears are still ringing. The vinyl comes in either split pink & blue or split blue & transparent. Order from Damnably. Say Sue Me on Facebook Otoboke Beavers on Facebook Continue reading Say Sue Me/Otoboke – Beaver Split 7″

Blow City – A Records I Like Playlist (November #1)

Aside from some of the tracks I have written about recently there is some excellent music here – why would I include anything but! If you only flirt with this list make sure you check out the tracks from Sound and Fury, Matriakatet, Glass Arcades, Savak, Soda Fountain Rag and the beautiful Bloodshade by Flower Crown. If you have missed any previous playlists you can find them here. Continue reading Blow City – A Records I Like Playlist (November #1)
