Some Christmas releases to catch the ear. Seafang – Happy When It Snows Actually this, like all of Seafang’s releases to date, is actually pretty good. Shoegaze (or should that be snowgaze) mixed with the sounds of C86 delivers one of the better holiday songs I have heard. They also cover The Primitives You Trashed My Christmas for good measure too. Continuing with the series of round ups. Underwater Obstacles – Meet Me I have really been enjoying Underwater Obstacles morose offerings of late. Meet Me is the latest track and is a great alternative gothic song. An album entitled Ghosts Of Trees is forthcoming. Wintermilk – Sonnik Ethereal shoegaze from Russia. The band have released a few songs to date but this is the first sung in their native language. As we hurtle to the end of 2017 I am trying to collate a number of releases over the next few posts. Pale Lights are making a bit of a “commotion” with this release because they are sounding like Lloyd Cole and the aforementioned more now than ever both vocally and musically. Obviously that’s not a bad thing but the comparison is the first thing will come into the listener’s mind. Get past that and there are three excellent songs here none more so than the lead track. …For Friends is the first compilation from Box Bedroom Rebels which is a Manchester based label specialising in 7″ singles.This mammoth 33 track compilation was released back in 2015 but is still relevant two years on. It collates the labels fourteen singles and names you may have heard of include Horse Beach, Lost Tapes, Tape Waves, The Artic Flow amongst others covering dreampop, indiepop, lo-fi and shoegaze. I have no idea who Bayu and Moopie are but I doth my cap to them as they have compiled a rather delicious album showcasing long lost Australian indie-pop tracks from 1982 to date. When it comes to this sort of this music it’s the female fronted bands who grab me most and this album is full of them. Compilation Week – Russian Tour 2

This compilation, compiled by Belka Records who are based in Moscow and Paris, features Russian speaking bands from Russia and The Ukraine. Skip pass the dreadful first track and persevere. Only Verbludes were known to me before but after listening to this a few more will be too especially the glorious post-punk sounds of Gruppa Hmuriy and Fleece Flower as well as the indiepop of Park 17.
