Jenni Sex – Treasures

São Paulo based post-punk band Jenni Sex will be releasing their debut album for Wave Records later this year. The band, whose influences include The Cure, The Chameleons and The Sound to name but a few, have released the first single from the album. Called Treasures it invokes that classic eighties sound that one associates with the darker side of the genre and I can imagine this one going down well on dance-floors at Goth clubs across the land. Now, where have I seen that cover art before? Treasures is available digitally from the usual digital outlets including Bandcamp. Facebook Continue reading Jenni Sex – Treasures

Post-Punk Sunday

The new single from Cold Cave is a cover of Absolute Body Control‘s Waving Hands. It stays faithful to the original although sounding darker and denser. Get it from here whilst the original version is available here. Warsaw Pact have released an album of demos called, erm Demos (2016-2109). The release includes two previously unheard demos in the shape of Made by Design & Discshop Inquisition. Maybe it’s one for the fans who are familiar with the originals but given it’s available on a pay what you want basis it’s also a good introduction to the band. Midnight Cure always … Continue reading Post-Punk Sunday

Telecom Falls – Apart

Canadians Telecom Falls describe themselves as a “post-goth/shoegaze”band and the fusion of dream-pop with hints of 1980s 4AD on Apart is not far off the mark meeting that description either. I like the Asian influences on the sampling which works well with the ethereal and Gothic voice of lyricist and vocalist Lydia Low. Apart is the second single to be taken from the forthcoming album Desire and aside from Fawns Of Love I cannot think (or have heard) of any other band who mixes dream-pop and post-punk so well. Facebook Continue reading Telecom Falls – Apart

Something for the Weekend? Three Post-Punk

This weeks features three of my post-punk picks from the past few weeks. Scary Black – Shadow Dwellers Shadow Dwellers is the debut album from Scary Black, an artist who has impressed me greatly this year. Mixing goth together with coldwave this is an excellent post-punk album and tracks like Not Tonite and The Crushing Weight are excellent examples of the genre. A must listen. Shadow Dwellers is available digitally from Secret Sin Records Ltd. Facebook Dehet Sinn – Mora Mora is the debut album from Polish band Dehet Sinn. Musically it is guitar dominated although some coldwave elements are … Continue reading Something for the Weekend? Three Post-Punk

Dark Embrace Me – A Post-Punk Mix

A post-punk mix featuring some of my most listened too post-punk tracks from the past few months. It primarily covers gothic rock and coldwave but also includes some other nuggets in between. Alternative stream at Hearthis.at Fall Tracklisting: Automatic – Calling It Calling It has thumping bass dominated groove with single tone, almost spoken, vocals that herald the arrival of the unclear synth sound. New Today – Snatch Taken from the recent New Today EP. Magnified Desire – Dead Flowers Australians Magnified Desire deliver two excellent synth-pop tracks that hark back to the early 1980s. The haunted, echoing vocals are … Continue reading Dark Embrace Me – A Post-Punk Mix

Echoscope – What We Lost EP

Andover’s Echoscope are a two piece gothic-rock act comprising of James Winter and Maisie Clark. The What We Lost EP is their debut demo EP. And what a find for the post-punk fan it is. The songs are strong whilst the words are dark but meaningful and are sung in an emotional style. Musically the songs are melodramatic, being guitar dominated in the main although we do get a track that is synth driven in the shape of When We Fall which gives a nod to early 1980s coldwave. Whilst I could chuck the usual suspects at you for comparisons … Continue reading Echoscope – What We Lost EP
