Lorelei – I Am a Road

I guess any band who may have well taken their name from a Cocteau Twins song is always going to sound this dreamy. Swirling sounds mixed with ethereal vocals puts the dream right into dreampop in a big way. The way the song ends hazily with the vocals sounding like they were lifted straight from 4AD’s catalogue in the 1980s is extremely pleasing to these ears. I guess it would have the same effect on yours too. Facebook Continue reading Lorelei – I Am a Road

Anajunno – Fuegoinvierno

It’s turning into an Argentinian themed weekend! Anajunno hail from Santa Fe, Argentina and Fuegoinvierno, which translates as Winterfire, is the follow-up to 2017s self titled debut. Anajunno’s music is primarily dreampop, but they also delve into other spheres. For example Julia Knows flirts with psychedelic pop whilst the instrumental Generador de pruebas is an excellent drone inspired track which reminds me of Eat Lights Become Lights. Another instrumental track Video 2000 is relaxing in a space rock sort of way. It’s the dreampop I prefer and the “poppier” the better. Both Burn The House and Salud temporal are cases … Continue reading Anajunno – Fuegoinvierno

Strangers In My House – Words

Kraków based Strangers In My House haven’t done things by halves on their debut track Words. It’s an epic, sometimes dreamy shoegaze track which keeps flowing in the right direction. The highlight is the unique vocal style which I don’t normally associate with shoegaze, being almost dramatic in places. They initially had me a bit suspect, but they won me over in the end as they found the right balance to blend in with the guitars and percussion. An interesting debut to say the least! Flowerbed – Flowerbed

Texan band Flowerbed have been impressing with their tracks to date and this self titled EP cements that even further. Sounding like a cross between The Cocteau Twins and Slowdive with hints of Lush and My Bloody Valentine thrown in for good measure their sound leans towards the etheral side of dreampop. The guitars are woven into harmonic threads whilst the voice of bassist/vocalist Bailey Biggs are hushed and soothing and at times the bands music sounds like the shoegazing equivalent of a lullaby. Lovely stuff especially on the beatific bluebonnet. Facebook Continue reading Flowerbed – Flowerbed

Layuchi Kvity – Девушка Которую Зовут Тишина

Девушка Которую Зовут Тишина (Girl Named Silence) is taken from the forthcoming album by Ukrainian shoegazers Layuchi Kvity. There is plenty of variety over the course of it’s 6m 20s especially when it comes to the vocals which at times reminds me of Dean Garcia (Curve, SPC ECO). It’s good to hear another band who are not afraid to move away from the confines of the generic shoegazing shackles. Facebook Continue reading Layuchi Kvity – Девушка Которую Зовут Тишина
