Witterings from an old indie kid

Coming Up Roses – Fall

I am certainly not comparing Singapore based Coming Up Roses with the music of Wagner but the opening 50 seconds on Fall reminds me of Das Rheingold Vorspiel, which happens to be the piece of music New Order choose to start their shows with these days. After the excellent introduction Fall becomes a soaring, dazzling dream-pop song that is all the more impressive thanks to the words and the sometimes innocent sounding voice of singer Emily Sera.

The song itself is taken from the band’s debut EP Waters but as hard as I try I just cannot embrace the other songs with as much enthusiasm as I have with this track. Maybe I need some patience but, for now, Fall certainly is coming up roses!
