Mashmellow – Share It

Mashmellow are based in Moscow. After meeting the band members Masha Shurygina and Egor Berdnikov, who both shared love of early 90s dream-pop, decided to create music, forming the band. Share It is their debut single and it opens like a latter day New Order with synths and rolling bass lines before becoming a fully fledged alternative / indie rock track. The voice of Masha Shurygina dominates and she, unlike a few of her fellow Russian vocalists I have been listening to these past couple of weeks, sings in English which I guess would widen their appeal. That said even … Continue reading Mashmellow – Share It

Весна Весна – Когда рядом огни

Saint Petersburg based Весна Весна (Vesna Vesna) follow up their debut Перемены настроения  with a new track which the band state was “written in one breath”. Translated as When the Lights Are Near it’s another one of those female fronted ethereal shoegazing tracks I have become so fond of late as haunted, wistful vocals glide over the shimmering guitars. It’s the first single to be taken from the upcoming album of the same name which is due for release next week via Home Audio (or it could be Native Sound as google translate gives me both options!). For now you … Continue reading Весна Весна – Когда рядом огни

Everyday is Like Sunday

Texan shoegazers Eternal Something follow up last years Realm//Zone EP with new track Seagoats. It’s another one of those shoegaze tracks that are inspired by poetic imagination and my mind wandered vividly as it played. I could listen to ethereal tracks like this all day long – well until the cow’s Seagoats come home. Brighton’s Dreams Of Empire have released their first new material since last years Nothing’s Ever Finished debut album. I am not sure if I have ever heard a song that references both the Sparks and Plastic Bertrand before but Broken Dreams does just that as it tells … Continue reading Everyday is Like Sunday

Records I Like Mix April 2020 #1

Well, I think March musically was one of the busiest months for a while for obvious reasons. I have listened too more than usual. Full Tracklisting Ferri-Chrome – Glad To See You Songs like Asteroid and Glad to See You are two of the finest songs I have heard this side of lock down Marcos y Molduras – Un Nuevo Ano Starting off gently it features harmonious boy/girl vocals and these … Continue reading Records I Like Mix April 2020 #1

Sleep Overload – You Need To Wake Up!

The new single from Sakhalin Oblast’s Sleep Overload is another slice of intoxicating ethereal dreampop. The vocals are barely audible at times as they do their best to rise above the crashing waves made by the effectuating guitars. You Need To Wake Up! is a good title as any given they declare on their Instagram page “how do you know this isn’t a dream”? It could be a nightmare for all I care as this track would be a great soundtrack to both! Instagram Continue reading Sleep Overload – You Need To Wake Up!

Thud – North Acton

Hong Kong based Thud have a song out in the shape of North Acton. Its a shimmering shoegaze track with some lovely accompanying synthesizers which must be ripe for a remix! The female vocals have an ethereal feel about them as they flit in and out of the reflective guitars like a wisp. Given the band stated that North Acton was their latest track and a lack of any others on their bandcamp page I did a bit of searching. I found two other bandcamp pages (here and here) which suggests they or their label may have lost their passwords! … Continue reading Thud – North Acton

Candace – DM-100

Candace hope to release their second album later this year via Little Cloud Records – present circumstances permitting of course. DM-100 is the first single to be lifted from the album. The band write that “This song is about four things especially: 1. Driving around with someone you love / 2. Waiting for something “big” to happen / 3. Destinations unknown / and 4. The dichotomy between who we are and who we seem to be.” It’s a lovely slice of dreampop to be sure. You can get it from here. Homepage Facebook Continue reading Candace – DM-100
