Echo Ladies – Overrated (Robin Guthrie Version)

Overrated was one of the many highlights from Echo Ladies recent long player Pink Noise. It now gets a rework by Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) tht removes the harshness of the original placing a sometimes delicate emphasis on the vocals and turning up the dream pop dial to maximum. Рыцарь Диких Яблок – Дворец Not sure I am trusting google translate here but the band and recording translate as Palace by Knight of Wild Apples. What I do know is that this is a very fine indiepop EP indeed. Forget the fact this Saint Peterburg based band sing in their native Russian (and why not) and let the music and harmonies do the translating for you. Class. Some Gorgeous Accident – Heaven Sent Heaven Sent certainly isn’t the sound of a band heading towards it’s final destination as their Facebook page indicates but it looks like it’s the end of the road for a band who have been around in one guise or another since 2006/07. It’s been a bit quiet around here recently so let’s rectity that with a few tunes. Citrus Clouds – Golden Sun Reverb heavy indie/dream pop from Arizona and follow up to last years excellent Ultrasound LP. Facebook Deaf – Shards I really enjoyed Deaf’s Truancy single and Shards carries on in pretty much the same vein. It’s an enjoyable track with a strong retro feel yet sounds like something fresh. Another strong vocal performance from Luke Kavanagh whose voice has has a ring of Billy Mackenzie to it. Value Void – Babeland Babeland is the second track to be taken from the forthcoming Sentimental album which is due for release next month. Unlike previous track Back in the Day which was a nod to the post-punk era Babeland is much more of a jangling affair and very effective it is too.
