As per usual a few labels have released compilations displaying their wares over the past couple of weeks. Here are a number of free ones that stand out.
Fuckin’ Indie Since 2006 (Alcopop! Records 2022 Sampler)
The Oxford indiepop label’s sampler features tracks from the likes of Helen Love, The Subways, Art Brut and Squiggles to name but a few.
Artoffact Records 2022 Sampler
The annual free sampler from the Canadian post-punk label Artoffact Records is one I always look (listen?) out for. Features a number of bands regulary featured on these pages including Actors, Leathers, Ploho, The Foreign Resort alongside a number new to me.
We Don’t Make No Junk!
We Don’t Make No Junk! is the recent compilation from Emotional Response Records which features a track from each of their vinyl releases this past year. Artists featured include Mick Trouble, Seablite and Lande Hekt amongst others.
Z Tapes Sampler 2022
The now French based label Z Tape’s samplers usually features indiepop/bedroompop/lo-fi artists I have never heard of before and, aside from Wake In June, their latest one is no exception. Plenty to discover here with the two tracks from fuvk standing out for me.
Drunken Sailor Records 2022 Sampler
For those who like their music a tad louder I generally find that Drunken Sailor Records releases generally do the job. Features tracks culled from each of their 2022 releases expect to hear a good dose of punk, powerpop, garage and post-punk. Highlights for me include the very late 1970s sounding Violencia by Generacion Suicida and Chicago’s Daddy’s Boy with Deacon Bruise.
