The Sweetest Touch – Reminiscence

Razif Mudarsyah Haragi has been recording under The Sweetest Touch moniker for sometime now. He has not lost his love for 1980’s UK indie, in particular Sarah records, just yet as these four songs found on the latest EP Reminiscence testify. The opening three tracks (Solitude, Reminiscence, Tender Heart) are akin to The Sea Urchins more serene moments. These are dreamy melancholy driven tracks that will have the listener drifting off through the clouds. The urgency of the final track Unnatural sees me snap out of my trance like state as it swirls around grabbing, demanding, the listeners attention. The … Continue reading The Sweetest Touch – Reminiscence

The Sweetest Touch/The Wellington – Untitled

Untitled is a split recording between two connected Indonesian bands (shared members?) The Sweetest Touch and The Wellington and both contribute two tracks each. The Sweetest Touch continue their trip down There And Back Again Lane haunted by the ghosts of Sarah Records past. A lazy comparison some might say but it’s still valid as both Answer and Bitter testify. Whilst it may well be a new sound to some I am hoping the 100% adoration with the said label will stop at some point and the band will develop their own sound. That said these are strong tracks especially … Continue reading The Sweetest Touch/The Wellington – Untitled

September Round Up #4

I have been meaning to post one or two posts covering recent releases by Indonesian bands as part of the something for the weekend series but have never got around to it to my shame. So without further ado; Sharesprings – Something Soon It’s not often I mention the same song on these pages twice but Something Soon is the standout track for me from Sharesprings’ debut album Paraparlor which also features recent single Elza, I’d Write You A Song. Excellent indiepop. Tullycraft still matters indeed. Get it from here. Ease – Longing A pretty excellent and most noisy shoegazing … Continue reading September Round Up #4

The Sweetest Touch – Too Many Dust, Too Many Haze

I am not sure why the legacy of Sarah Records, and C86 in general, is so big in Indonesia. Bands from that country has been producing high quality indiepop for years and this, the latest release by The Sweetest Touch, is no exception. The whole EP sounds like it is from another decade. You could have sneaked the excellent title track onto the recent C88 compilation from Cherry Red and no one would have been the wiser. Are we quite sure that these are not recently found recordings from a back room in Bristol 28 years ago? Amazingly available for … Continue reading The Sweetest Touch – Too Many Dust, Too Many Haze
