Jeanines – Jeanines

The self titled debut album by Jeanines takes me back to the years of my youth circa early/mid 1980s. It takes me back to the times I eagerly waited for fanzines, flexi-discs and records to drop through my door or the weekly trip to pick up the music press to excitably scour for even more things to spend my hard-earned pennies on. Not to mention the countless trips to the record shop! So much on this fantastic record reminds me of those days. The DIY ethos, the very short songs, the artwork with a distant church, the 1960s influenced tunes … Continue reading Jeanines – Jeanines

Jeanines – Either Way

New York’s Jeanines grabbed our attention this time last year with a couple of demos and the wonderful Hits The Bone which betrayed all of their indiepop influences. They have since signed with Slumberland Records and will be releasing their debut self titled album in June. Either Way is the albums opening track and it suggests that some great things are coming our way. Sounding like Tallulah Gosh and the American bands they influenced (The Aislers Set/The Frenchmen) it is indiepop perfection. Roll on June…… Facebook Continue reading Jeanines – Either Way

September Round Up Time!

I have been a bit slack on posting these past couple of weeks but I have some good excuses for that! Firstly I have set up a new record label with my Sleeping Today Promotions collaborator. I have also been helping promote the next Culture Bunker night which takes place on October 22nd and it will also be part of the #keepingitpeel events for 2016. And on to getting back on track and the music that has been grabbing me of late. Indiepop supergroup (?) Tangible Excitement! will  be releasing a new 7″ single shortly on Freakscene (UK & Europe) … Continue reading September Round Up Time!

Mercury Girls – Ariana

Regular readers (if such as thing exists!) would have noticed I was a somewhat quiet during April and May and now I have a backlog of stuff to post all of which I am sure you have heard before. Anyway Mercury Girls released an impressive couple of demos last year (which are still available here) and recently released their debut single on Slumberland Records. Ariana follows the classic indiepop template albeit with a 1990’s twist but it’s the flip side All That Heaven Allows that stands out for me. It’s a catchy post punk pop song with a great chorus … Continue reading Mercury Girls – Ariana

The June Brides – She Seems Quite Free EP

Indiepop originators (their words, not mine) The June Brides release their new single during the middle of September. The She Seems Quite Free EP features two tracks written by frontman Phil Wilson (the title track and Being There) whilst the third track I’m Undone (love Jon Hunter’s trumpet on that one!) was composed by guitarist Simon Beesley. The EP is being released jointly by Occultation (UK/EU) and Slumberland Records (US). Pre-orders are being taken now. Homepage Facebook Continue reading The June Brides – She Seems Quite Free EP

Gold-Bears – For You

Easter has just improved with the news that Gold-Bears are to release their second album Dalliance on June 3rd via Slumberland Records. Their debut album Are You Falling in Love? was a corker and judging by For You they are continuing in the same vein. Frontman Jeremy Underwood’s vocals are still distinctive as ever and they go well with the fast and furious guitars. If This Poison! were American they would have sounded like this…… Pre-Order Dalliance here. Homepage Facebook Continue reading Gold-Bears – For You
