Something For The Weekend? Three From Howlin’ Banana Records

This weeks pack of three features three releases from French label Howlin’ Banana Records. Cloud Factory – Cloud Factory #1 Cloud Factory are a Pop/Post punk band hailing from Toulouse. They consist of Alice (keyboard/vocals, Ben (bass), Bruno (drums), Robin (guitar) and Romain (guitar). This self titled EP is their debut release.  The music is mainly inspired by garage rock but there other influences such as indie pop and a punk attitude also running through. The sound has a fuzziness about it and the female vocals stand out too. A pretty good debut methinks. Cloud Factory #1 is available on … Continue reading Something For The Weekend? Pop Crimes – Debuts

Originally released last October Debuts gets a re-release on cassette (and digital of course) on Howlin’ Banana Records. The band, who are a supergroup of sorts as they comprise members of En Attendant Ana, Blondi’s Salvation and Young Like Old Men take inspiration from the likes of The Pastels, Sarah Records and Pavement. Don’t let that guide you mind as this release mixes up 1960s garage, a bit of grunge and most certainly some noise. Musically each of these songs, which are sometimes harsh or raw, always veer on the side of melody and contain more than enough catchy guitar … Continue reading Pop Crimes – Debuts

Special Friend – Low Tide

Low Tide is taken from the forthcoming self titled EP from Special Friend. It’s a mix of garage and indie rock which already makes it mark just as the psych influenced guitars start to make some noise. There is another track, Before, also available for streaming which merges garage and 1960’s influenced indiepop together for maximum effect. I cannot wait to give the whole EP a listen when it is released but for now these two tracks will do quite nicely for now. Special Friend will be released on Howlin’ Banana records on 10″ vinyl and digital formats at the … Continue reading Special Friend – Low Tide

eGGs – eGGs

eGGs are a Parisian indiepop four piece and this is their second release, with the same name, also on Howlin Banana Records! There are two tracks. The first A Certain Smile has more hooks than a fishing competition, mixing indie pop with psychedelia and then some. The chorus, as with the vocals throughout, is/are addictive listening. The second song, Picture Book, has a swirling organ sound with a 1960s garage pop feel. Close your eyes and you can imagine a kaleidoscope of colours to accompany the music. Er just me then! These are two excellent songs that deserved to be … Continue reading eGGs – eGGs

Bootchy Temple – Lady Sunshine

The Bordeaux based band Bootchy Temple have been releasing tunes for a few year now but this is the first time I have heard anything by them. And what an introduction it is as Lady Sunshine sounds like Stereolab if they were making a track for inclusion on C86. It’ s short, sweet and brilliant. Must delve into their back catalogue at some point – adds another name to the list! Lady Sunshine is taken from the album Glimpses that will be released later this month on Howlin’ Banana Records. Pre-order from here. Facebook Continue reading Bootchy Temple – Lady Sunshine
