Say Sue Me/Otoboke – Beaver Split 7″

I mentioned Say Sue Me’s wonderful track Good For Some Reason last month and at that point it was only available digitally. It’s now surfaced on a split 7″ release via Damnably and on the flip side is the very shouty Sil Vous Plait from Japanese punk poppers Otoboke Beaver which might catch you unaware if you have the headphones on. My ears are still ringing. The vinyl comes in either split pink & blue or split blue & transparent. Order from Damnably. Blow City – A Records I Like Playlist (November #1)

Aside from some of the tracks I have written about recently there is some excellent music here – why would I include anything but! If you only flirt with this list make sure you check out the tracks from Sound and Fury, Matriakatet, Glass Arcades, Savak, Soda Fountain Rag and the beautiful Bloodshade by Flower Crown. If you have missed any previous playlists you can find them here. Continue reading Blow City – A Records I Like Playlist (November #1)

Port Sulphur – Blow City

The new Port Sulphur digital single features the likes of James Kirk (Orange Juice) and Davy Henderson (The Fire Engines/Win). Indeed the band is the project of Henderson’s fellow Nectarine No 9 and Sexual Objects stalwart Douglas MacIntyre who also happens to be the owner of the Creeping Bent label. Back to the song itself which is a predominately guitar driven instrumental until the vocals finally fade in towards the tracks climax. It’s effective stuff. The debut album Paranoic Critical is due for release in March 2018. In the meantime purchase Blow City from here. Continue reading Port Sulphur – Blow City

Parsnip – Health

Health is taken from Australian band Parsnip’s self titled debut single that is due for release later this month. Straight from the off with it’s handclaps both the song and it’s cover art suggest that the song could easily of come from another era. The pleasing 1960’s girl group style vocals and the garage guitar sound works really well and wet the appetite for the full release. Parsnip will be available in 7″ vinyl and digital formats via Anti Fade. Pre-order from here. Facebook Continue reading Parsnip – Health

Briya – Lado A/Lado B

No Halloween nonsense from me today. Instead here are the first two releases (or both sides of just one?) from Argentinian band Britya. Regardless whether it’s just the one release or two all the tracks here encompass many of the ingredients that make up indiepop with twee, dream pop, noise pop and fuzzy guitar pop alongside healthy does of punk and riot grrrl. It’s on the latter, particularly Tiempo, that they shine to these ears and it’s further evidenced on the shouty Todo Me Enamora. It’s all good fun and Briya provide one of the best debut releases I have … Continue reading Briya – Lado A/Lado B

Daze In The Sun – A Records I Like Playlist (October #3)

A third and final playlist for October which should see you through the week and into November. There is so much good stuff out there now I could not possibly write about them all so these playlists are great as they encapsulate what I found on bandcamp. Hopefully there will be something you like too. Enjoy! Continue reading Daze In The Sun – A Records I Like Playlist (October #3)

You Can See – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 5

Another mix of post-punk for your listening pleasure. Aside from the obvious Joy Division clones there seems to be quite a bit of innovation in post-punk genres especially under Coldwave of late so much so I could probably start a new blog around it. Probably! Once again there is more than enough to keep you occupied from the return of Cold Cave and music from new post punk bands hailing from from Italy, France, Mexico and many more places around the globe. So get stuck in and enjoy! Continue reading You Can See – Coldwave, Darkwave, Post-Punk, Goth-Rock and Minimal Synth Vol 5
