Sugar World – We Fell In Love

Sugar World follow up their excellent Sad In Heaven single with the bittersweet We Fell In Love. Unlike the aforementioned single there is no fuzziness here and instead we are treated to a bittersweet twee-pop song. Both the vocals and guitars are in a mournful mood. Whilst the latter chime like bells the lovely female voice, which seek reassurance, insecurely asks if “do you blame me, do you miss me, do you hate me”. Lovely but sorrowful with it. UK Indiepop 2019

The UK indiepop revival that peaked a few years backed seem to have died out so I asked this question on Twitter the other day and it sparked a lot of chat and replies. Thanks to everyone who was involved. A number of the replies mentioned bands featured on this blog in the past whilst there were a lot of names that were new to me. I am not sure that some of the former met the criteria but as indiepop has a pretty wide ranging sound it seems to be a good idea to include them. So, with all … Continue reading UK Indiepop 2019

Marcos Y Molduras – Te Puedes Morir

Marcos Y Molduras follow up previous single La De Parks with new track Te Puedes Morir. Whilst the former was fuzzy brilliance the latter is a slower paced affair which sways onto the side of twee pop. However it is not all sugar sweet as you may first suspect! When the lyrics are translated it hints at darker thoughts as behind the smiling facade the subject matters lover can die if her feelings are not reciprocated. Gulp….. Te Puedes Morir is out now digitally on Discos De Kirlian. Continue reading Marcos Y Molduras – Te Puedes Morir

Grrl Cloud – Winding Streets/Voicemail

Originally released for Cassette Store Day Philippines 2019 Winding Streets/Voicemail by Manila based Grrl Cloud has a recent digital release courtesy of Genjitsu Stargazing Society who are also the label behind the aforementioned event. Winding Streets is twee pop at it’s finest echoing to the early 1990s indiepop sounds of labels such as Woosh or Sunday Records whilst Voicemail is an acoustic song that is both delicate and wistful. I have not heard much from the artist or label but some digital crate digging may well be in order. Facebook Continue reading Grrl Cloud – Winding Streets/Voicemail

Tvärtom – Tvärtom

The self titled debut EP from Finland’s Tvärtom features four jangling indiepop songs that sound like they could have been recorded in another era. The guitars chime throughout and the deadpan male vocals are beautifully supplemented by some fine female backing vocals none more so on Kadun Humina. They sound like they have taken the best elements of the various bands on Sarah Records and fused them together. There is something very Field Mice like about Lätäköt which is utterly charming. A very impressive debut. More please ASAP! Continue reading Tvärtom – Tvärtom
