Spring Winds – Alpine Vic

Russian band Spring Wind have released a new single and it’s their first since the Sway EP which was released last August. Alpine Vic is a slab of noisy shoegaze that is not too far away from what their fellow Russians PinkShinyUltrablast were doing at one stage. I am sure that if it was played loud enough the track could possibly be heard in their native Saint Petersburg!  Note that an English version of the song will appear on the band’s next album. Until then head over to Bandcamp to obtain the track on a pay what you want basis. … Continue reading Spring Winds – Alpine Vic

Records I Like Mix April 2020 #1

Well, I think March musically was one of the busiest months for a while for obvious reasons. I have listened too more than usual. The Bandcamp revenue waiving fundraiser saw plenty of additions to my collection too. So much so that April’s Mix is spread over two parts. Here is part one. Enjoy! Full Tracklisting Ferri-Chrome – Glad To See You Songs like Asteroid and Glad to See You are two of the finest songs I have heard this side of lock down Marcos y Molduras – Un Nuevo Ano Starting off gently it features harmonious boy/girl vocals and these … Continue reading Records I Like Mix April 2020 #1

Deep Red – Before You Leave

Texans Deep Red have released their debut EP, titled Before You Leave, which follows three previous singles of which only February’s Over and Gone appears here. The band’s sound takes in influences from alt-rock and shoegaze with the emphasis being on the noisier side of things. The mixed vocals work well with the fuzzy, heady guitars as track after track crashes into your consciousness. Box of Memories is the stand out track for me but there are absolutely no time wasters here. Most good! Before You Leave is available digitally from the band. Thud – North Acton

Hong Kong based Thud have a song out in the shape of North Acton. Its a shimmering shoegaze track with some lovely accompanying synthesizers which must be ripe for a remix! The female vocals have an ethereal feel about them as they flit in and out of the reflective guitars like a wisp. Given the band stated that North Acton was their latest track and a lack of any others on their bandcamp page I did a bit of searching. I found two other bandcamp pages (here and here) which suggests they or their label may have lost their passwords! … Continue reading Thud – North Acton

Ferri-Chrome – From a Window

The debut mini-album from Japanese act Ferri-Chrome has just been released. If the translation is correct the band features members, or ex members, of Sunnychar, For Tracy Hyde and Boyish. However no translation is needed when listening to the tracks on From A Window which consist of five indiepop/shoegazing influenced songs. That window must have been given a thorough cleaning as these songs sparkle pretty brightly. The label mentions Ride and The Pale Saints and I can certainly hear the influence of the latter. Songs like Asteroid and Glad to See You are two of the finest songs I have … Continue reading Ferri-Chrome – From a Window

The Friday Round Up

For those unaware Bandcamp are running a Covid-19 fundraiser today which seems them waiving their revenue share so that all monies go directly to supporting the artists. You can read about that here. If you can buy just one release that would help the artists concerned and the fundraiser lasts until Midnight Pacific Time tonight (7am in the UK). Onto the round up. It’s been two years since we last from Dunedin’s Astro Children. On new single Milk the band move away from their alt-rock/shoegazing roots and instead is a vibrant alternative pop song. Well worth the wait and it’s … Continue reading The Friday Round Up
